From the very beginning, Denis Villeneuve had a big plan Dune. He wanted to turn Frank Herbertoriginal book into two epic films - even if Warner Bros. won’t let him shoot “Part One” and “Part Two” in a row. Fortunately, after the first Dune the film was a definite box office success in the post-pandemic world upon its release in 2021, he received permission to complete his adaptation with Dune: Part Two, which was originally scheduled for the end of this year. Everything seems to be going well with the project. Except for the fact that it was delayed for half a year.

But here’s the thing: Dune it’s not just one story. Herbert wrote several more books continuing the story of Arrakis, the desert planet. And after his death, his son Brian Herbert continued to write new books in this series. So if Dune: Part Two successful, Villeneuve intends to continue his journey among the stars, making more films about this fascinating desert world and its enigmatic sandworms.

Speaking to Empire, Villeneuve admitted that if he could adapt, that would be his biggest dream. Dune: Messiah and complete what he will consider his Dune trilogy. According to him, Villeneuve plans to change this message.

“If I manage to make a trilogy, it will be my dream. Dune: Messiah was written as a reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero. This is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation [of Dune] closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning. After that, the books become more… esoteric. [As for Part Three] I will say that there are words on paper.”
