At Netflix sweet magnolias, the fictional town of Serenity, South Carolina, is filled with dozens of favorites and not-so-loved characters we’ve come to know over the past three seasons. New characters have been introduced, although it appears that by the end of the season 3 finale, the couple may be breaking up, and the fate of the fan favorite Trotter (Hunter Burke) is in the air. Through the eyes of Maddie Townsend’s best friendsJoanna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott) and Helen Decatur (Heather Headley), we saw the good and the bad in the city and many of the characters, allowing even minor side characters to have some depth. Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears), for example, experienced tremendous growth, and it’s a blessing that she wasn’t kicked off the show after she left Bill (Chris Klein) in the first season. Similarly, the newcomer to town has a lot of potential: Genevieve (Nikki Estridge).

In the fifth episode sweet magnolias In the third season, Genevieve suddenly appears in the city. She meets and flirts with Eric (Dion Johnston) at Z’s Place and uses her experience as a beautician - and on the NASCAR track - to land a job at the Magnolias’ Corner Spa (although Helen is conspicuously absent from the interview and Trotter fills her spot). She conquers everyone almost immediately, hired locally. From this point on, Genevieve’s story revolves around Eric when they start dating after Helen and Eric have a fight over Ryan (Michael Schönefelt) proposed to her. We learn that she got divorced at some point in the past, and the reason she applied for a job at Corner Spa - instead of continuing to work at her home studio, which she found too lonely - is to meet a lot of people and get a sense of community. We don’t see Genevieve very often, but what we do see is intriguing. And since she and Eric are still dating by the end of the season, we hope to see her more often.

Genevieve, at least until now, seems so different from other characters in the series. She has a different energy, which is actually quite interesting to watch, given that many of the other characters have started to kind of blend into each other. To be honest, at first I was sure that she was working with Kathy (Wynn Everett) to get revenge on the Magnolias, though fortunately this never happened. Either way, Serenity actually seems like a somewhat odd choice to her, as it doesn’t fit the stereotypical small town mold. She is relaxed, calm and does not want to get into other people’s business. It’s actually very revealing that Genevieve, despite working for the ladies, decided not to accept Ronnie’s invitation (Brandon Quinn) and Dana Sue’s vow renewal because, as Eric says, she doesn’t really know them. It feels like any other contestant on the show would agree; hell, even katie and bill showed up and they definitely were not invited.

Genevieve and Eric’s relationship is worth seeing

Again, we’ve seen very little, but what we’ve seen about Eric and Genevieve’s relationship is promising enough that the show will continue to explore it if and when it returns for a fourth season. Genevieve showed Eric a different side that we hadn’t seen before, which was such a refreshing change of pace. Since the beginning of the series, Eric has been understandably plagued by injuries, darkness, and complications. He still mourns the loss of his wife and child while trying to start a new life in Serenity, and his burgeoning feelings for Helen become instantly complicated given her recurring romance with Ryan and her desire to have a child. So Genevieve’s presence was a welcome twist for Eric and for the show to explore a bit of Eric’s fun side. She brought out something in him that we needed to see, something that it’s unclear if we’ll ever see between Eric and Helen at the moment. We need more of this side of Eric. He deserves to be happy and have love, fun and relationships that are not so serious and complicated all the time. In this regard, we are now rooting for Eric and Genevieve - at least until Helen continues to grow and reaches a point in life where she becomes happier and more satisfied with the way things are around her.

At this point it seems for granted that we will witness a love triangle between Genevieve, Eric and Helen in sweet magnolias Season 4: After all, despite being with Genevieve, Eric looked longingly at Helen (and vice versa) at renewing Dana Sue and Ronnie’s vow, demonstrating their longstanding feelings for each other that need to be addressed now that Ryan (again) broke up. It’s also very interesting that the show pointedly kept Genevieve and Helen away from each other, first during interviews and then during vow renewals. They have yet to meet, which seems a little strange. What are the writers looking for? Why keep them apart, especially since Genevieve is technically working for Helen? In any case, when they meet, it will be very interesting to see how they react to each other. Overall, Genevieve is a fun addition. Her backstory is quite interesting, but there are still enough mysteries around the character that the writers can play with a bit in the future. Her scenes with Eric added a bit to the show and helped Eric grow exponentially. In truth, it was nice to see Eric getting a story outside of Dana Sue’s kitchen that doesn’t revolve around Helen. (However, we could do without his painful interactions with mean and scheming Katy, or his misplaced guilt over Katy trashing Dana Sue’s kitchen.) Genevieve was a breath of fresh air that the series and Eric desperately needed. To be honest, she was better than some of the characters that have been together since the beginning, although we won’t name names.

Every Episode sweet magnolias is flowing now.
