According to the film’s version of events, the Spanish Inquisition appears to be led by a master exorcist possessed by the demon Asmodeus, who wanted to defame God and the Church. While it may not sit well with historians, Father Amorth’s own opinion is reflected in this particular plot element of the film, in which the demon Asmodeus focuses on infiltrating the Vatican by possessing Father Amorth - which is why he asks for a priest to be brought to him after how to take over the body of little Henry.
