Comic-Con won’t see any talent on screen this year as SAG AFTRA joins the writers on the pickets. The fan-favorite convention, said to be popular with comic book, film and cosplay lovers, will have a limited screening schedule of films and series as major players such as Netflix, Disney, Marvel Studio and others have decided not to attend the event. after the writers’ strike and now with actors joining them, more and more panels are being cancelled.
Joining the latest line of canceled panels is Legendary, which was supposed to bring the long-awaited Dune: Part 2 to the convention. Hollywood Reporter Boris Kit revealed on twitter“Due to the actions of #SAGstrike, Legendary pulled out of Comic-Con, canceling a panel that was supposed to feature cast and footage from DUNE PART 2.”
What to expect from Dune, part two
After the critical and commercial success of the original feature, fans are very excited Denis Villeneuveinterpretation Frank Herbertsaga. The film’s first trailer added further fuel to the fire by revealing new additions to the cast, such as Austin Butler, Christopher WalkenAnd Florence Pugh. Film will see the rise Timothy ChalametPaul Atreides as the messiah. Recently speaking to Collider, Rebecca Fergusonwho plays Paul’s mother, Lady Jessica, shared her frank excitement,
“Now I smile so much. It’s damn good. I am very emotional about this because I love Danny. [Villeneuve] i love Greig [Fraser] and i love the team. But, man, number one is phenomenal, big and grand, and then there are close-ups, imagery, and acting. Yes, everything is great. It’s fucking nothing compared to number two. Secondly, it’s like a fucking kick in the gut. It’s unreal.”
But fans will have to wait a bit to find out more about the upcoming feature. It is rare, but not unprecedented, for both actors and writers to picket for their rights. Some of the contentious points of both unions relate to fair wages, leftovers, and the use of artificial intelligence. The writers went on strike back in May when the WGA and AMPTP were unable to reach an agreement on these issues. Since then, many series and films have suffered, but those whose scripts were blocked before the strike continued to be made. But now that the actors are also picketing, the production of many projects such as Mission Impossible: The Wage of Death - Part 2MCU Dead Pool 3and Netflix Sandman stopped filming. Time will tell when these projects will be up and running again, but the shutdown will certainly delay the release of some fan-favorite projects.
Dune 2 set for a November 3 release date. You can watch the trailer below:
