Harvey Guillen as Guillermo de la Cruz
Harvey Guillen has had a fairly prolific voice acting career, recently appearing in the critically acclaimed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Prior to all this, Guillen landed his breakout role in What are we doing in the shadows like Guillermo.
Unlike most characters in the series, Guillermo de la Cruz is not a vampire. Instead, he is a servant known as the familiar of the clueless 700-year-old vampire Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak). Guillermo handles all of the duties of Nandor and the other vampires in their Staten Island home, such as renovating, paying the group’s taxes, and luring potential victims into the house so the vampires can eat. The reason Guillermo does this is because he hopes that one day Nandor will turn him into a vampire, fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a bloodthirsty creature of the night. Guillermo later discovers that he is a descendant of the great vampire hunter Van Helsing, which creates an interesting conflict of interest for the aspiring vampire.
Season 4 ended with a cliffhanger when Guillermo contacted his vampire friend and paid him a substantial sum to turn him into a vampire. Though he gets bitten, weeks go by and Guillermo still hasn’t gained any vampire powers. Season 5 will almost certainly show if Guillermo’s vampire bite has taken hold or not, and his seasoned vampire friends will likely try to help.
Kayvan Novak as Nandor the Relentless
The eldest of the four vampires living in Staten Island is Nandor, played by an English actor and Cruella star Kayvan Novak.
Nandor is said to be over 700 years old, making him one of the oldest vampires in the series. One would think that this means that Nandor is wiser and more verbose, but he is arguably the most clueless character in the entire series, knowing next to nothing about the modern world. That’s why Nandor relies so heavily on Guillermo. Although he appears cruel and humiliating towards his familiar, Nandor actually loves Guillermo very much and considers him his closest comrade. However, even Guillermo is unable to help Nandor as he falls into various bouts of depression, usually inspired by memories of when he was commander of the Ottoman Empire.
Nandor seems as clueless as ever in the Season 5 trailer, thinking the cut image Ryan Seacrest acts as a coupon for a local store. Since Guillermo has the potential to become a vampire, this could create problems for the less-than-mundane Nandor.
Matt Berry as Laszlo Cravensworth
Matt BerryComedy Chops are well known in the actor’s homeland of the UK thanks to his work on toast to london And IT Crowd. Thanks to his outstanding performance as Laszlo Cravensworth in What are we doing in the shadowsMatt Berry has attracted more audience than ever, and for good reason.
The second inhabitant of a Staten Island vampire home, Laszlo has been married to his beloved wife, Nadia, for the past few centuries (Natasha Demetriou). Like any couple, they have their ups and downs, sometimes ending in a temporary open relationship and sometimes Nadia chasing Laszlo around the house. On one occasion, Laszlo even left the state for a week, taking on the new Jackie Dayton moniker to get away from a rival vampire he owed rent. In recent seasons, Laszlo has also formed an amazing bond with Colin Robinson (Mark Proksh), even taking care of the energy vampire when he was reincarnated as a rapidly growing infant.
In the Season 5 trailer, Laszlo tries to teach Guillermo (whom he continues to misname Gizmo) how to turn into a bat and fly.
Natasia Demetriou as Nadia Cravensworth
Natasha Demetriou instantly became a star after playing the hot-tempered Nadia in What are we doing in the shadows.
Nadia bit Laszlo and turned him into a vampire, and they’ve been (mostly) happily married ever since. Nadia has embroiled herself and her companions in more than a few crazy schemes over the years, and she is almost always the ringleader of these schemes. When Nadia and her companions are chosen to be the leaders of the New York Vampire Council, Nadia becomes the one who does most of the day-to-day business, and even has the wild idea of opening a vampire-only nightclub. Nadia is also almost always accompanied by a Nadia doll, wielded by a ghostly human version of Nadia.
In the fifth season, Nadia appears to be trying to give dating advice to the naive Colin Robinson.
Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson
In a series where every character can be considered a fan favorite, Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson might be the most beloved character of all.
At first glance, Colin Robinson looks like any other person, but in fact he is one of the most powerful and most common vampires. Colin Robinson is an energy vampire, so instead of feeding on blood, he feeds on human emotions, namely boredom. He draws this energy by being the most down to earth person imaginable, entertaining people with the inevitable nonsensical talk. Fans of the series were shocked to see Colin Robinson die on his 100th birthday in Season 3, but it was revealed that Robinson was reincarnated as a rapidly growing child. In the end, Colin Robinson grew up and returned to his old self, not even remembering the time when he was a big-headed child.
In his latest scheme to get more energy, Colin Robinson runs for office in the fifth season using the slogan “Fallin for Colin”, helping him with his campaign.
Kristen Schaal as tour guide
Kristen Schaal best known for her voice work on popular animated shows such as Bob’s Burgers And Gravity is fallingso it’s always nice to see her play live.
Known only as the Conduit, the character Shaal is a devoted servant of the Council of Vampires and fulfills every need that the Council requires. First appearing as a guest star in The Trial, Schaal has since become a series regular and helps the new Vampire Council with all their needs, no matter how stupid those needs are.
