With that in mind, Reddit users recently gathered on r/movies, the largest movie subreddit, to discuss which outstanding performances were the most memorable. When it comes to chewing on the sets, these actors are unbeatable.
10 Al Pacino - Heat (1995)
This classic crime film takes place in Los Angeles from director Michael Mann revolves around two men on opposite sides of the law. Al Pacino plays Vincent Hanna, a ruthless LAPD detective. He investigates a series of daring heists committed by genius Neil McCauley (Robert DeNiro) and becomes increasingly obsessed with bringing the thief to justice.
Pacino has some truly amazing, incredible moments. He obviously had a lot of fun playing this role. “Hatred is out there in full force […] It’s going off the rails in a few places in spectacular fashion,” Reddit user “bone-in_donuts” said.
9 Chris Tucker - The Fifth Element (1997)

8 George S. Scott - “Dr. Strangelove’ (1964)

7 Bruce Campbell - The Evil Dead (1981)

6 Eddie Redmayne - Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Eddie Redmayne plays the villain Balem Abrasax in this wachowski science fiction, owner of the largest business empire in the known universe. This is definitely an exception to Redmayne’s filmography. His character is corrupt and mannered, speaking in an exaggerated whisper. The performance earned him a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor. It is noteworthy that in the same year he received an Oscar for Best Actor. Theory of everything.
“I like [Redmayne’s performance]. He’s the only one who seems to have figured out he’s in a grand space opera while the leads looked like they came out of a mumblecore indie movie,” Redditor user scoutcjustice said. “Eddie was hilarious in this film. 5 Dennis Hopper - Blue Velvet (1986)

Frank is a volatile and sadistic character who can go from vulnerable to explosive at any moment. “Movie’s most surreal and ludicrously crazy performance went to Hopper as Frank Booth in Blue velvetand it’s not even close,” Redditor The_ZombyWoof told Redditor.
4 Tom Cruise - “Magnolia” (1999)
Magnolia follows the intersecting storylines of various characters in the San Fernando Valley, each with their own unique struggle. Notable performances in this ensemble include Tom Cruise as Frank T.J. McKee, a charismatic and controversial motivational speaker. Frank is a complex character, outwardly personifying confidence and success, but harboring deep-seated insecurities and a troubled past.
Cruz’s portrayal of Frank is a revelation, showcasing his acting range. He gleefully subverts his superstar image. “[Cruise] crazy in Magnolia. Like, I don’t even think it’s Tom Cruise jumped on Oprahcouch. It was TJ Mackey,” user spititout said.
3 Crispin Glover - By the River (1986)
River’s edge tells the story of a group of disgruntled teenagers who struggle with the shocking murder of their friend. Crispin Glover gives a unique intensity and unpredictability to the role of Lane, the de facto leader of the group, who is in turmoil and desperately looking for a goal.
It’s an exaggerated performance, but Glover is believable as a man whose sanity is fraying. “I don’t know why, but somehow it works and lifts the mood of the whole movie,” said Reddit user kuwetka. “A great movie. Crispin was definitely on top of it,” user speyerder666 replied.
2 Nicolas Cage - Kiss of the Vampire (1988)
Nicolas Cage not new to acting but his work in Vampire Kiss excellent even by his standards. He plays Peter Lowe, a successful and arrogant literary agent who goes insane after a mysterious encounter with a woman who he believes turned him into a vampire.
His exaggerated facial expressions, frantic mannerisms, and iconic delivery location. Vampire Kiss among his most memorable performances: “I think the performance is actually perfect in many ways,” user Koenybahnoh said. “His accent in this film is completely confusing,” Dreamshoes Redditor added.
1 Kirk Douglas - “Villain” (1979)
the villain comedy western directed by a stuntman-turned-director Hal Needham. Dumb but kind-hearted cowboy named Handsome Stranger (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is relentlessly pursued by criminal villain Cactus Jack Slade (Kirk Douglas). Douglas takes on the role with gusto, displaying exaggerated gestures, precise comedic timing, and rogue charm.
It’s impressive for being so different from the roles Douglas was best known for. “the villain looks like a live action version of the Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons. As a famous serious actor, he is simply incomparable,” said Reddit user damienkarras1973.
