The show’s protagonists include Carmi, his family and friends, and longtime collaborators whom he meets upon his return. And each character is adorable in their own way. (Note: spoilers for season 2).

10 uncle jimmy

Uncle Jimmy is looking away and talking to someone in a scene from The Bear.

Uncle Jimmy seems terribly obnoxious at first. Even though he has helped Carmi and others during difficult times, he still has an arrogance in him. However, he redeems moments, such as when he tells Richie’s wife that he gave him a job when he didn’t to save Richie from embarrassment, and when he lends Carmi more money to open a restaurant.

It’s not clear how Uncle Jimmy amassed his wealth, but it seems from his behavior and many connections that it may not have been the most honest of methods. Uncle Jimmy runs a business deal and treats everything like a deal. However, he seems to genuinely love his nephews and has a particular soft spot for his niece Sugar.

9 Ebraheim

Ebraheim looks flustered in a scene from The Bear.

As the oldest chef at the Ebraheim restaurant, played by Edwin Lee Gibson who is also currently starring in the Hulu series Uncaptured, goes with the flow when Karmi shows up and starts making changes. But he really starts to feel like an outsider after spending a few days at culinary school. He leaves to do some soul-searching, but when Ebraheim returns and confesses his feelings to Tina about resistance to change, it shows it’s not about ego.

Ebraheim is happy to run online courses so he can continue working at The Beef. He may not have such a big role in Season 2, but Ebraheim is one of the first to make “Beef” what it is.

8 Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto

Sugar is talking to Car, he looks annoyed in a scene from The Bear.

Fans get a better view of Sugar being played Saturday night life alum Abby Elliott, in the second season. She quickly jumps into action to help the project run the restaurant’s opening when she sees how much they struggle with organization and finances. Having unexpectedly become pregnant, she takes everything calmly, doing what is necessary for the sake of her family.

Sugar shines in many moments in season two, including rolling up his sleeves in a black dress to unclog the toilet at the premiere. However, how badly she was treated by her mother makes fans sympathize with everything Sugar went through and love her even more seeing her come to the other side.

7 Richard “Richie” Jerimovich

Richie is sitting in the bar of a restaurant surrounded by paper cups in a scene from The Bear.

Richie is initially considered the least likable of them all. But he has the most compelling character line in Season 2. After first confessing to Carmi through his tough exterior that he feels useless and unwanted, he continues to lash out at everyone and try to get things done that are out of his way. But all this comes from insecurity and attempts to find one’s place.

Richie finally turns things around when Carmi sends him to do menial work at the number one restaurant in Chicago. He meets a sort of mentor who explains to him why and how he derives joy from serving others. He studies and learns the ins and outs of haute cuisine, only to return to Carmi to tell him that he finally “gets it”. Richie in a suit, with his nasty tongue and temperament, is a much better version of the character and can even be considered likable.

6 Clare

Claire is standing in front of the freezer section of the store talking to Carmi, who is blurry in a photo from The Bear.

The first love interest that fans see in Carmi, Claire immediately seems likeable. It’s fueled by everyone from Richie to Fack to Sugar praising Claire as a great woman. In a flashback sequence, it is seen that the cousins tried to set Carmi up with Claire many years ago.

She is sweet, kind, driven, smart, and supportive. Her quiet nature helps Carmi get rid of her own anxieties and insecurities and strengthen him. She also helps him out of his shell by taking him to parties and providing him with a safe place to let his guard down. Add to that her work as a doctor, and no one had anything but good things to say about Claire.

5 Tina

Tina looks at someone in Bear.

Tina is one of the first and older members of The Beef who quickly embraced Carmi’s changes. Although she was initially against them, she had the maturity and insight to understand the value of what he was doing.

Seeing Tina’s eyes light up with joy when she’s sent to culinary school, when Carmi gives her his expensive chef’s knife, and when Sydney promotes her to sous chef shows how much others recognize her dedication. But it’s the scene when she sings karaoke in a bar at a party with new, much younger chefs that makes fans fall in love even more with her willingness to take risks, take responsibility and resist even uncomfortable situations. .

4 Marcus

Marcus stands in Copenhagen in a green cap and looks pleased with the Bear.

Markus’s passion for desserts comes through in every episode, but is especially evident when he works with renowned pastry chef Luca in Copenhagen. Markus absorbs all knowledge, reads voraciously and does his best to become better and prove himself as a worthy confectioner. He doesn’t just want to get better, he sincerely loves what he does.

But what fans love most about Marcus is that he is sweet, kind, caring, always positive and willing to do whatever it takes to help everyone succeed. He approaches every challenge with energy and it’s hard not to like him.

3 Neil Fak

Fak kneels with a wrench on a pipe and looks the other way in a scene from The Bear.

Neil Fak is a quirky, rude best friend who is always there when Carmi needs him to fix, build, or troubleshoot something. If he can’t do it himself, he knows someone who can. He is always cheerful and positive. When he slicks his hair back and dons a suit to become the head worker in the season 2 finale, it also shows significant growth.

Neil is a fun-loving best friend who cares so much for Carmi that he gives Claire’s phone number to Carmi because he knows she’ll be useful to him. He can come off as annoying and childish at times, but it’s the stupidity and innocence that everyone loves about him.

2 sydney adamou

Sydney looks at Tina and speaks with a notepad in her hand in a scene from The Bear.

Sydney being played Ayo Edebiri who most recently also appeared in the sixth season Black mirrorlived a hard life. From losing her mother at a young age to having to return to her father when her career aspirations faltered, it has not been an easy journey. But Sydney has a drive to succeed, a passion, a desire to learn, and leadership qualities, all of which are nice qualities.

While she is so focused on her job that she sometimes misses opportunities outside of her, such as Marcus’s apparent interest in her, Sydney looks to the prize. She sets high standards for herself, but also makes an effort to try and achieve them, such as when she researches food around town to draw inspiration for her own cooking. But most importantly, Sydney does her best to support Carmi, recognizes the skills of others like Tina, and wants her father to be proud of her.

1 Carmen ‘Carmi’ Berzatto

Carmen sits in her office, hand raised, looking worriedly at the Bear.

Though Carmi is stuck in his head, it’s hard not to appreciate his calm demeanor (sometimes) and the success he has achieved against all odds. He treats everyone with respect, surprising the low-level sandwich shop chefs when he refers to each of them as “chef”. He gives Sydney a chance and encourages her to pursue her dreams. In particular, he never turns his back on his cousin Richie even though most people would have fired Richie many times.

Despite his status as an award-winning chef, Carmi is also humble. He understands the importance of respecting the role everyone has to play in a restaurant and never makes anyone feel unimportant. In fact, he usually does the exact opposite, showing his employees that he trusts them, which in turn helps them find him in themselves.
