When succession ended a couple of weeks ago, it ended the history of the Roy family after years of betrayal and a relentless power struggle. The fight got to the point where it looked like the Roy siblings would never speak to each other again by the time the series ended, but according to one of the show’s stars, there might be room for forgiveness. During a recent interview with Diversity, Kieran Culkin said he thought the Roy siblings would be able to work out their differences at some point in the future. His arguments for doing so stem from his character’s need to stay close to his family:

I think Roman would be very happy about it. But I have no idea! I love that there are different interpretations of this and different theories. I like it because all these things can exist at the same time - that’s why I think it’s great that everything ended where it left off. Very similar to the end, but could be more. Because it really can!

I really want to see what happens with these characters. But I’m really content to be sitting here with this feeling that I want more and know it’s over.

The disagreements between the characters intensified when Kendall (Jeremy Strong) decided that he would be the best option to lead Waystar Royco in the future. His siblings seem to have agreed to his plan given how Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) did not really believe Shiva (Sara Snook) could become the company’s next CEO. When Roy learned of Matsson’s plan to find someone else for the job, they worked together for the first time in years, doing everything they could to keep their father’s company from falling into the wrong hands.

However, this would not have been enough, as Shiv recalled that Kendall contributed to the young man’s death in the series’ first season. She simply couldn’t let a man like her brother run one of the most powerful media conglomerates in the world, and her actions made Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) will be elected as the new CEO of Waystar Royco. Even if that meant she would be trapped in the same position her mother once found herself in, Shiv couldn’t let Kendall’s immature behavior lead such an influential news organization.

Logan Roy’s legacy

At the beginning of the show, it was established that Logan (Brian Cox) was never able to maintain a healthy relationship with anyone in his life, choosing to focus entirely on his work and the impact he had on the media industry. The unconventional way he cared for his children resulted in them being emotionally dumb, believing they simply deserved to inherit the company without actually doing anything to earn it. Perhaps the fate they suffered during the final episode was that they saw retribution for everything they did over the course of four seasons.
