HBO has released a trailer for the third season of the televangelist comedy and introduced new guest stars who will be involved in the exploits of the Gemstones this year. Deadline has a trailer for the third season, which will premiere on June 8 and will consist of nine episodes. It depicts Gemstone’s eldest son Jesse (Danny McBride) planned to take his father’s place as head of a megachurch preaching family with the help (or hindrance) of his two younger siblings, Kelvin (Adam Devine) and Judy (Edie Patterson).
Meanwhile, Patriarch Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) is retiring, but cannot help commenting from the outside. Mayhem ensues, and the trailer features a NASCAR race, monster truck rally, sinister masked henchmen and heavily armed militias. It is reminiscent of last season, in which the family fended off an outside threat from rival televangelists Lyle and Lindy Lissons (Eric Andre And Jessica Lowe) and discover some (literally) hidden family secrets. Also set to return Cassidy Freeman (wife of Jessie Amber) Tim Baltz (unbelieving significant other Judy blowjob) Tony Cavalero (close friend of Kelvin, former Satanist Keefe Chambers), Greg Alan Williams (Gem Family Ax Martin Imari) and Skyler Gisondo (wayward son of Jesse Gideon).
Who will join the Gemstones this year?
HBO also announced that several high-profile guest stars will be joining the series this season, including Steve Zahn (George and Tammy), Stephen Dorff (True detective), Shea Whigham (Perry Mason), Kristen Johnston (Third rock from the Sun), Lukas Haas (Babylon), professional strongman Robert Oberst, Stephen Schneider (Broad City), comedian Iliza Schlesingermusician Sturgill SimpsonAnd Casey Wilson (happy endings). Zan can be seen in the trailer as a snake-handling preacher with an intimidating, violent congregation that crosses paths with the Gems, and Jesse prepares for a confrontation that could cost him his life. A number of recurring characters are also planned to return, including Walton Goggins like Uncle Baby Billy Freeman, Jennifer Nettles like Amy Lee Gemstone James DuMont like Chad, Jody Hill like Levi, Troy Anthony Hogan like Matthew Valyn Hall like Tiffany Freeman Kelton DuMont like a Pontic gem and Gavin Mann like Abraham Gemstone.
righteous gems was created, produced and written by McBride, his third black comedy series for HBO after Eastbound and down And Deputy directors. It was renewed for a third season last year, ahead of the airing of the second season finale.
