Cheryl Blossom (ur.Madeleine Petsch) and Tony Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) is a fan-favorite spike on riverdale and it’s been that way since Tony’s appearance in the second season. Fans watched as Cheryl went from being a heartless and angry girl to having her guard down and becoming completely vulnerable. We watched her discover her sexuality and realize her feelings for Tony and finally be loved and accepted for who she is. They were a real exemplary couple. riverdaleThey were healthy, they were cute together, and they were a perfect example of opposites attracting. But in the Season 4 finale, the ship has died and they have yet to find their way back to each other. Now, moving on to season 7, it remains a mystery if the pair will get back together and secure their endgame, but it may just be necessary for the show to reach a satisfying conclusion.
Toni represents Cheryl’s softer side
Season 1 Cheryl Blossom was your typical mean girl, she was a queen bee and never let anyone forget that. Therefore, when Toni Topaz appeared in the second season, both for the audience and for Cheryl herself, it was a surprise that her personality began to change with the appearance of the girl. Cheryl went from raging against Tony and the other Serpents who had transferred to Riverdale High, to slowly but surely easing her guard. Toni could see through the walls Cheryl had put up and tear down every one of them. Their moment at Pop’s Chocklit Shoppe remains a fan favorite scene to this day - it’s the first time Cheryl really opens up to someone, and also when it’s revealed that Cheryl was once in love with a girl named Heather. Tony assures her that she’s not loveless or a pervert, she’s sensational, and fans everywhere are swooning.
However, Cheryl’s mother Penelope (Natalie Boltt) did not feel the same way, and upon learning of the affection shared between them, sent Cheryl to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy for conversion therapy. It was a heartbreaking and dark arc for Cheryl, and it only showed the hardships she endured throughout her life at the hands of her mother. However, Tony manages to save the day; with the help of VeronicaCamila Mendes) and Kevin (Casey Cott) she sneaks into the building and finds Cheryl, sealing her commitment with a passionate first kiss and thus beginning their relationship.
Choni’s relationship status has never been more uncertain
The couple hasn’t been going smoothly, but they always seemed to get through whatever challenge they faced. Despite all of Cheryl’s questionable deeds (like keeping her brother’s corpse in the basement), Toni has never strayed far. They were perfect for each other and helped each other through any problems they faced, which is what made the end of Season 4 so devastating. Cheryl suggests that they throw a dinner party and invite Tony’s family, which Tony claims might be a bad idea, and that when Cheryl does meet her grandparents, it might be better to just pretend they’re not dating. After two seasons of dating, it’s a gritty storyline, but they still had hope. Eventually, they will go to a school where they can truly be themselves without fear of judgment from their families. But then Nana Tony forbade her from dating Cheryl, not because she was a woman, but because she was a Blossom, and the Blossoms had taken so much from them over the decades. It’s the tearful scene in the season 4 finale where Cheryl ends her relationship with Toni, telling her that she doesn’t want to make a choice between her partner and family, but that maybe one day they can actually be together with everyone’s full approval. sides.
And then came Season 5, and with it a seven-year time jump, and any hope of Choni’s reunion was squandered. Cheryl has hardly left Thornhill in these seven years and feels cursed by the Blossom bloodline and doomed to an unhappy life - not only that, but also Tony the Fangs surrogate (Drew Ray Tanner) and Kevin that Cheryl disapproves and thus rejects Toni’s offer to continue the relationship again. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, after Kevin and Fangs broke up, Tony and Fangs became a couple and ended up getting married in Season 6. It all seemed so unnecessarily messy and dramatic, and while the time jump might have ended well for their relationship, the show seems to have given up on trying. It seemed so hopeful at first, but all hope was quickly squandered and it’s unclear where Choni is, especially now that the show is returning to the 50s for its seventh season.
May Cheryl and Toni be together and happy again
Drama is a necessary part of television, especially when it comes to soap shows like riverdale and relationships within it. Toni and Cheryl have problems and things they need to deal with, not necessarily a bad thing, but the bad thing is that they seemed to constantly pull away from each other for no rhyme or reason. This was to either add more drama to the characters around them, or further complicate their own story and push their ending even further out of sight. There was genuine hope for a revival in Season 5, but the show lost sight of them (and its plot) and left them free-falling with no net to catch them.
Going back to the 50s is a unique idea and could be a really interesting addition to the series, but where does it leave Cheryl and Toni? Sure, they can come together in that timeline and that would be awesome, but what about today? It seems to be a completely different universe so it will likely not affect anything these days, meaning that Cheryl and Toni will still be running out and any development will either be left behind or squeezed into the final stretch of time. . episodes as a way to appease fans and make ends meet that should have been connected a long time ago.
Not every original ship has to come together, some just don’t work anymore or have overdue their hospitality, but Cheryl and Toni are kind of drawn to each other. They always find their way to each other, even if it’s not in a romantic way. It would be pointless to end the show without them together, they really feel like they’re destined to be together. The plot of Abigail and Thomasina proved that more than anything they are kindred spirits, in this life and in all previous ones. Keeping them apart just doesn’t work and makes the show feel unbalanced. For riverdale to really land and end this wild ride of the show, he has to give Cheryl and Toni their long-awaited happy ending.
riverdale Season 7 premieres March 29 on The CW.
