Popular reality shows have dominated the screens for centuries. Many shows such as Big Brother, RuPaul’s drag racingand various have talent The series draws tens of millions of viewers with each episode and runs for more than a dozen seasons. These series often have other versions from other countries as well.
There are many other reality shows that give new meaning to the usual formulas. While these shows may have been decently popular in their heyday or in their country of origin, they are still vastly underrated in a broad sense.
“Survivor” (2005-2016)
survivor is a Canadian survival television series that ran for eight seasons. The show is directed and directed by its one and only star: a survival expert. Les Stroud. In each episode of the show, Stroud travels to a pre-reconnoitered remote location and tries to survive for over a week in harsh conditions.
As well as being entertaining, it’s also really informative, as Stroud gives some advice on what plants can and can’t be eaten, how to gather supplies, and how to seek shelter. Stroud also feels like a more down-to-earth person and usually doesn’t perform eccentric stunts solely for the purpose of shocking, which is not the case with some other survival series.
“Show Me the Money” (2012-)
There seems to be an endless supply of singing competitions on the air. With shows like Voice, The Masked Singer, american idolAnd X - FactorThere seems to be no shortage of aspiring singers trying to make it on TV. But what about rappers? Well, luckily there is show me moneya South Korean TV series that features a rapping competition.
The show is notorious for increasing the interest of the South Korean public in hip-hop: even Western fans of this genre love it and it is always interesting. The show features well-known Korean rappers as well as a few new faces, proving that rap really does require talent.
“The Most Strict Parents in the World” (2008–2012)

The parents of this new family are known for their extreme strictness. The challenge is to give troubled teens a huge dose of tough love to see if they can change their lives for the better. The show first started as a British series but eventually expanded to other countries including Denmark, Germany, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.
“World of Dance” (2017-2020)
You are probably familiar with the dance competition, So you think you can dance? Often this series features individual dancers of different styles. Some of these dancers are great. Others, not so much. One thing about world of dancehowever, in that all competitors are great.
The show pits some of the best dance companies in the world against each other in amazing performances. If you are in the mood for beautiful and incredible choreography, this is the show for you.
“Saving Bondi” (2006-)
Rescue Bondi Australian reality show about lifeguards working on Bondi Beach in Sydney. The show chronicles the rescue operations carried out by the staff and all the dangers they face, including sharks and other dangerous life forms in the ocean.
The series has been around for quite some time and many have considered it outdated. Its earlier seasons are still very interesting as the world of Bondi’s lifeguards was relatively unknown before the show started airing.
“In real life” (2009-2011)
In real life they starred 18 children between the ages of 12 and 14 who were assigned to take part in a grueling series of real-life challenges. These jobs weren’t your stereotypical office job. Each episode presented a new set of challenges and a new world of employment to explore, and was almost always unique and exciting.
Some examples include but are not limited to: circus performer, race car driver, stunt performer, zookeeper, Broadway star, beekeeper, wildlife rescuer, and many more. This gives an idea of the skills really required for such monumental tasks. Although the show is aimed at young people, it is quite a fun sight for adults as well. The show has received various “Best Program” awards from several different networks and has been nominated in many others. It is a pity that it was so short.
“Extreme Miser” (2012-2014)
This is one of those shows that you’ve probably seen snippets of on the internet but haven’t watched a single full episode yet. This is your sign to do so. extreme hunks this is exactly what it looks like. Each episode featured people known as tight-fisted people who would do anything to save money quickly.
To the outside observer, many of these methods seem strange, unconventional, or even downright ridiculous. But it’s still interesting to see how people find ways to save money. Who knows? You may even learn something yourself.
“Hacking the System” (2014-)
This National Geographic show is hosted by Brian Brushwood and shows several unethical (but not always illegal) ways to overcome social and financial barriers. Some of them include how to move up a few places in a long line, how to become a famous restaurant regular, and how to get discounts at stores.
I repeat: the things shown in the show are often unethical. Some of them can be useful in the right circumstances, if you wrestle with your conscience enough. But if you’re not the kind of person who can inconvenience others for your own benefit, then you should still watch the series. At least then you’ll know what to look out for if you run into someone who doesn’t face such a moral dilemma.
“America’s Worst Chefs” (2010-)
Just like singing competitions, there are many well established cooking competitions to choose from. Take likes Chef, chopped, Great British Competitionor Hell’s Kitchen, For example. The premise is that a group of amateur chefs go through a culinary training program to prepare an edible three-course meal for food critics.
You may not be the best cook. Sometimes this can be discouraging. But rest assured, you will never be worse than the people on this show. The cooking methods presented by the show’s chefs are bizarre, dangerous, or unconventional, and often lead to hilarious results. It’s so absurd it’s ridiculous, so it’s worth checking out.
“Who wants to be a superhero?” (2006-2007)
Who wants to be a superhero? there was a contest where the contestants aspired to be the next comic book star. They dressed up in custom-made superhero costumes and took part in a series of challenges to prove that their hero is the best among the rest. Not only the winners of the show have turned into comics, but also action figures and characters from Syfy films.
The show, as you can imagine, was absolutely ridiculous, but at the same time funny and entertaining. It’s a step backwards from the usual competitive show formula that prioritizes ridiculousness and fun over the talent of the contestants themselves. The show was also created and rated by a Marvel comics legend. Stan Lee. If that’s not reason enough to watch, what is?
