The Kent family has never experienced anything like the shocking revelation in the show’s third season. Superman and Lois. The storyline from the series followed Clarke (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) because they thought they were expecting another child. A visit to the hospital revealed to the couple that not only was Lois not expecting a baby, but that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.

During a recent interview with Entertainment WeeklyElizabeth Tulloch spoke about the process she went through to find out about her character’s condition:

(Joanna Kearns) introduced me to women who have either experienced inflammatory breast cancer or also very aggressively survived late-term breast cancer, and it was amazing. I think I ended up talking or interviewing, or whatever you want to call it, 10 or 11 different women. (People Tulloch spoke to said) … Don’t forget to get a mammogram or an ultrasound if you have dense breast tissue, and keep them younger and younger because more and more young women are getting this diagnosis.

Lois’ diagnosis proved to be a major blow in the gut for the Kent family, as this iteration of Man of Steel focuses entirely on his family life before focusing on his heroic adventures. Over the course of upcoming episodes, Tulloch mentioned that Lois won’t let her illness affect her too much, as the character will continue to fearlessly stand up to the villains and won’t stop pursuing her goals. The actress also thinks it’s important to raise awareness about breast cancer given how real the upcoming storyline will be compared to what usually comes out of a comic book TV show.

Unfortunately, Lois is now in danger, not only because she is right at the crossroads of events, but now also because she is suffering from a very serious illness.

Whenever Superman flies through the sky, you can always count on a version of Luthor lurking in the shadows. V DC Extended Universe, Jesse Eisenberg played a role in threatening every important person in Clark (Henry Cavill) life, so that he would kill Batman (Ben Affleck) for him. It remains to be seen how far Cudlitz’s version of the villain will go as the season continues to release episodes weekly on The CW.
