Hayao Miyazakithe latest feature in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, Boy and heron, just released its official English trailer. The voice cast includes some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Christian Bale, David Bautista, Robert PattisonAnd Florench Pughamong the others. Boy and heron was released theatrically in Japan by Toho on July 14, 2023, but will be released in the US, UK and Ireland in December 2023.

Miyazaki returning with a feature film after ten long years - So Boy and heron has been in development for almost a decade. With the film slated for release across the United States on December 8th, the renowned director will mark his name with eleven mysterious and, of course, beautiful projects, ten of which are produced in collaboration with Studio Ghibli.

Boy and heron tells the touching story of Mahito, a 12-year-old boy who tries to find his place in a new city after the death of his mother. His life takes a magical turn when a talking heron tells him that his mother may still be alive. Full of hope, Mahito explores the old tower and finds himself in another world. Through his adventure, he learns more about himself and how to cope with feelings of loss. The movie though inspired by November 1937I’m on Genzaburo Yoshinostill retains Miyazaki’s signature and touching style.

Earlier this year, ScreenRant reported that Studio Ghibli’s VP Junichi Nishioka reported that it is true that Miyazaki will no longer work on animation. However, he is already coming up with new ideas and plans to continue writing.

In the North American release of Studio Ghibli. Boy and herondistributed by GKIDS, the ensemble cast includes Christian Bale voicing Shoichi Maki, while Dave Bautista takes on the role of the Parrot King. Gemma Chan voices the character Natsuko, and Noble Pelican voices Willem Dafoe. Karen Fukuhara breathes life into Lady Himi, and voices the character of Grandfather Mark Hamill. Gray Heron is voiced by Pattinson, while Pugh takes on the role of Chirico.
