Since 1973 Exorcist turned the heads of moviegoers across America. After two more consecutive installments released before the 1990s, and two prequels released in the 2000s, the next part of a completely new trilogy begins. Exorcist: Believer. This time the problem is doubled: two little girls disappear into the forest and then return with no memory of the events that happened while they were lost. Things get worse when their families begin to notice horrifying signs of demonic possession. With no one else to turn to, one of the girl’s fathers, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.), enlists the help of Chris McNeil (Ellen Burstyn) to relive the nightmare she experienced in the original Exorcist film and help save his child.

In an interview with THR, Ellen Burstyn said she has no interest in returning to Exorcist franchise. However, given the growing importance of her role in the film and the “devil… begging [her] price,” they made an offer she couldn’t refuse. The nostalgic revival of her character combined with the hype surrounding the franchise gave this sequel the perfect formula for success. Whether he actually achieves this level of success or deserves to burn in hell… we leave that up to you to decide. The question arises, where can I watch this?

Watch the trailer for The Exorcist: The Believer

Universal Pictures released Exorcist: Believer‘s Official trailer on YouTube July 25, 2023. Viewers beware: this teaser may give you nightmares.

The trailer begins with Victor Fielding (Odom Jr.) dropping off his daughter Angela (Lydia Jewett) with his friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) on a seemingly ordinary school day. Then, accompanied by ominous music, the story takes a dark turn. It cuts to surveillance footage showing the last known whereabouts of the two girls before their mysterious disappearance. After a three-day hunt in the forest, the girls return again, only now there is something unusual in their behavior. If that wasn’t enough, Universal Pictures released a second trailer on their channel on September 5, 2023, and got straight to the scary stuff.

This time we start inside a house with even more ominous music. Chris McNeil (Burstyn) enters the room to find Katherine’s (Marcam) possessed character eating pages from the Bible. With bold apprehension, McNeil confronts the demon and admits that they have met before, which is accompanied by demonic screams of laughter that are enough to give chills. If the trailers are an honest reflection of what’s to come, this could be the scariest movie to watch this year.
