- Separation The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Splitting it into two films allowed for greater exploration of plot and character development, increasing the depth of the source material.
- Final split decision The Hunger Games Part of the two was important in depicting the horrors of war and its impact on the main character, Katniss, and other victims.
- Although it was controversial at the time, splitting the ending into two films was the right choice to do the story justice and provide a satisfying and bittersweet ending to the franchise.
The division of the final films in the franchise into two parts has been controversial ever since. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows did this back in 2010. Then followed Twilight: Dawn, and in the end The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. By that time Mockingjay came out, the magic of the two-part finale waned, and other episodes suffered as a result. However, this hasn’t worked for every franchise. Divergentanother hugely popular young adult series, was left unfinished after the first half of the final film flopped and the studio decided it wasn’t worth moving forward with. The Hobbit Trilogy there were also problems with the book’s bloated expansion. Maze Runner successfully completed a trilogy of films. However, it worked wonders for Marvel. Avengers: Infinity War And Avengers: Endgame. And despite Francis Lawrencedirector of three The Hunger Games films and the upcoming prequel, now regrets his decision to adapt Mockingjay Since these are two separate parts, it was the right decision regarding the source material.
Francis Lawrence was right to split The Hunger Games: Mockingjay into two films
While talking with People magazine about adaptation The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesprequel film based on the novel of the same name about a young Snow being groomed to become the brutal President we know him to be, Francis Lawrence mentioned that he was adamant that this upcoming film be made as one, due to his concerns about separation The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. “I completely regret it,” he said of the split. Mockingjay. He goes on to explain that it’s frustrating to wait a year for completion, but also notes that in four hours of viewing, they “saw more of the book on screen than [they] I would have been in any other film.” In previous films there was never time to delve into some of the things that Mockingjay finally had time to explore. Without it, Mockingjay would crash and burn.
This left more room to explore the plot of The Hunger Games book.

When Francis Lawrence came on board The Hunger Games: Catching Fireit was clear that the franchise was in good hands. The Hunger GamesWhile this is an overall faithful adaptation, there are still some important elements cut out that we never got to see, including Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) hearing loss and Pete (Josh Hutcherson) loss of one leg after participating in games. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Part 1. there’s a lot going on, as Lawrence called for almost everything from the book to be adapted. Pete, Annie, Joanna and a number of other subjects were taken captive by the Capitol and experimented on and tortured. Katniss finds herself the face of the revolution in District 13 while her mental state deteriorates, with only her mother, sister and Gale reminding her of her home in District 12, which the Capitol has called retribution for her actions. Meanwhile, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) does not retreat. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Part 2 then talks about Peeta’s brainwashing after they rescue the Dani, Katniss and her closest friends becoming “Star Force” to film propaganda on the war-torn streets of the booby-trapped Capitol, Snow’s quest to film her murder, and Katniss’ possible assassination by President Coin (Julianne Moore).
The novel itself is not much longer than its predecessors. However, one of the main complaints about it is that it was rushed and glossed over important character points. If these two films had to adapt all of this into a two-hour runtime, even a three-hour runtime, it wouldn’t be enough. Even now, some elements in the films seem rushed, but it breathes much better. In some cases, movies even improve on the novel because it may take longer to complete. We’re no strangers to three-hour movies, but a four-hour movie? It won’t be easy to survive, and there’s no doubt that studios will want to shorten that time for more sessions. Mockingjay without the time he had, he would have been a shadow of himself. What hour of video could have been cut? Almost everything is necessary not only to create an atmosphere of anticipation for revolution, but also to show the audience the horrors of war and the impact it has on Katniss and the other victims.
Splitting ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ will allow for greater character development
By far the best thing in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Part 1. these are moments of a smaller nature. Although some call it boring, it would be The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Part 2 worked also without development? No. This film still has some fantastic action scenes, such as the destruction of a hydroelectric dam and the start of a revolution. It features devastating scenes such as the hospital exploding, followed by Katniss’ unforgettable line: “If we burn, you burn with us!” speech. These are huge parts of the film, but we get so much more. Katniss and Prim (Willow Shields) were never really given much screen time, but here we learn a lot more about their sibling relationship and how Prim grew up to become a doctor. Prim’s development here makes her senseless death even more shocking. The same goes for Finnick (Sam Claflin) that Katniss can contact. We learn a lot about his character, including how he was forced into sex work under threat of killing his loved ones and his therapeutic tying of knots. We even learn about Snow’s penchant for drinking poisoned drinks to deflect suspicion, resulting in bleeding mouth ulcers that never heal because the antidote doesn’t always have the intended effect.
We also spend a lot of time with Katniss that we wouldn’t normally have time for, especially her tumultuous relationship with President Coin. When the pieces finally fall into place Mockingjay Part 2, and she realizes that everyone is using her, the slower scenes are worth it. The added running time of the two films allows us to see her suffering and how that suffering is exploited by others. She was used by President Snow, Pita was used to torture her through Snow, and she was used by President Coin. Everyone used it. It’s a terrifying cycle of exploitation that she can’t seem to escape.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. Justify the story.
Boring. Grabbing money. Unnecessary. That’s all that was said Mockingjay Part 1 And Part 2. But looking back, I realize that there was no other way to properly use the source material other than to split it into two parts. One film wouldn’t have had enough time to delve into the story as deeply as both, and it would have resulted in a shallow and bitter end to the franchise, which is one of the best and most bittersweet endings.
Although they have had a lull, bilateral pairings are enjoying a resurgence. Dune: Part 1 has been a big success for Warner Brothers during the pandemic and Dune: Part Two It will hit theaters this spring. Splitting Dune into two parts is the only way to do justice to this classic novel. Even an adaptation of Universal’s hit Broadway show. Wicked will be split into two films starting next fall. Thus, although the reaction may have been harsh to Mockingjay being split into two parts was ultimately the right decision for the story.
