Invisibledirector Yoko Okumura also confirmed the statement with a new trailer that shows how she takes personal experiences and hardships and uses them to inspire her stories, wrapping it all in a crazy and colorful world:
“What I like to do as a director is to use my own personal heartaches as emotional inspiration for a story, and then wrap them in wild storytelling and a colorful world. Invisible is a thrilling thrill ride with incredible villains revolving around the emotional anchor of an unlikely friendship story between two very different women. My own female friendship was the emotional foundation of my life, so celebrating the power of these two characters to save each other was deeply personal to me. As a teenager I often felt helpless and it didn’t help that I never saw girls like me become powerful heroes on screen so now as a director I create the heroes I need to see in the world . to have not one, but two Japanese American women portray complex, strong, yet vulnerable characters. I’ve never seen such characters occupy a funny thriller in this way.”
