According to the report, Aladdin star Mena Massoud is part of the production team of a Farsi language project called The last king.
The last king adapted from King’s story, The Doctor’s Caseone of his lesser known thrillers. The Doctor’s Case is a Sherlock Holmes King murder mystery about a murdered father in a locked room where the only suspects are members of his family. The film adaptation will be the world’s first Iranian adaptation of a Stephen King story. Variety reports that the film is set in Iran and reflects the country’s ongoing “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution, which often makes international headlines as Iranian women continue to resist the government and push for their demands for gender equality.
The last king will feature an all-Iranian cast, including an Iranian-American comedian Maz Jobrani, Sheila Ommi from Apple TV Tehran, Marshall Manesh, Shiva Negar (Cleaning woman), Peter Banifaz, Nazanin NurAnd Tara Grammy, among others. Massoud will produce the film under his Press Play Productions banner, which he co-founded with a producing partner. Ali Mashaekhi with the goal of bridging the gap between Hollywood and the Middle East and North Africa. Mashayehi won the rights to the story through the King’s Dollar Baby program, in which the author grants aspiring directors, students, and theater producers the rights to his work for a $1 fee.
The last king will be the second time King Doctor’s case published in 1987, will be filmed. The first adaptation of the story was released in the 2018 film of the same name by the director.
