Last of us Episode 5 premieres two days early on Friday, February 10 exclusively on the streamer and HBO On Demand, before airing on the linear network at regular times on Sunday, February 12.
The move comes as the HBO original drama continues to gain more fans and grow with each new episode. After becoming the second most watched series for the network, it was second only to their juggernaut in a decade. Game of Thrones prequel Dragon House, Last of us continued to post record growth from its premiere to episode 2 as the series rocked the remaining naysayers. Episode 3, meanwhile, was the show’s high point so far, drawing 6.4 million viewers, the highest number in the series to watch what is still considered its most emotional episode. An early premiere of Episode 5 will contribute to the series’ overwhelming popularity, although no sequel is planned as the remaining episodes will air at their regular Sunday hours until the March 12 finale.
New HBO original based on the iconic Naughty Dog games and created by Craig Mazin And Neil Druckmann, follows survivors Joel and Ellie through the post-apocalyptic USA and out of the oppressive quarantine zone. Pascal and Ramsey lead an all-star cast that also includes Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Storm Reed, Merle Dandridge, Lamar Johnson, Keyvonne Woodard, Graham GreenAnd Elaine Miles along with the two stars of the original game Troy Baker And Ashley Johnson. Episode 3 also recently featured the arrival Nick Offerman And Murray Bartlettcharacters Bill and Frank respectively.
What’s next for Joel and Ellie in Last of us?
This week, Melanie Lynskey And Geoffrey Pierce making their debut on the show as it looks set to take on the Pittsburgh side of the game. Lynskey plays Kathleen, an original character who appears to be a major threat to Joel and Ellie as they try to avoid her and her people in town. If this is indeed a Pittsburgh quarantine zone sequence, it already looks like another departure from the game, giving some of the raiders in the city names and identities rather than just creating a bunch of random bad guys that the pair have to fight.
Long term future Last of us looks healthy since the show was recently renewed for a second season. Druckmann and Mazin still have a lot to do, including left behind DLC that follows Ellie in flashbacks, reminiscing about her days with her close friend and love interest Riley, and The Last of Us Part 2 The action takes place years later and explores the cycle of revenge between Ellie, Joel and new character Abby.
