Jim Gaffigan known to most as a talented stand-up comedian with a passionate love for Hot Pockets, but he also made a name for himself in acting. He added his name to the popular sitcom subgenre in which comedians play exaggerated versions of themselves with The Jim Gaffigan Show (2015-2016) and took a more dramatic turn with Ted Kennedy biopic Chappaviddick (2017). Gaffigan is also set to enter the vast wonder world of the Walt Disney remakes as Mr. Smee in the upcoming film. Peter Pan and Wendy (2023). Come back later this February, Gaffigan fans will have the opportunity to see the comedian like never before in an ambitious film that spans comedy, drama and sci-fi. Linoleum (2023) is the director’s third feature film. Colin West (Double Walker), and starring Jim Gaffigan as an unsuccessful children’s TV host and scientist named Cameron Edwin.
Cameron’s downward spiral continues due to his own marital problems with wife Erin (Rhea Seehorn) and daughter Nora (Caitlin Nakon), but his life takes its strangest turn when objects start falling from the sky in suburban Cameron. One of these objects crashes in his backyard along with parts of what looks like a rocket, inspiring Cameron to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an astronaut and going into space.
With a promising director and a strong cast. Linoleum already looks like a strong independent contender before its wide release. This is also due to the fact that the film had already premiered early last year during the 2022 SXSW festival and early reviews and reviews have been very positive. First teaser trailer Linoleum was released prior to the JF International Youth Competition and does not reveal much of the film’s plot. It starts with Gaffigan’s character, Cameron, waking up and going on a delightful bike ride through the neighborhood. He drives past an elderly woman looking at the trees (Elizabeth Henry), a man who looks like a younger version of himself, and a teenage boy (Gabriel Rush) driving a bright red sports car. He finally arrives at his residence and sees his wife Erin working on some kind of fixture in the garage. When Cameron asks what she’s doing, Erin replies, “Something fantastic.”
The second trailer, released on Jim Gaffigan’s personal YouTube channel, dives much deeper into Cameron’s character and the challenges he faces. Things immediately get weird when Cameron submits his final application to NASA, a sports car containing his younger version of himself falls from the sky. This doppelgänger turns out to be a man named Kent Armstrong, who turns out to be a thorn in Cameron’s side when he replaces our protagonist as host Bill Nye Science Guyeducational children’s TV show. Couple that with Cameron’s strained relationship with his wife and daughter, as well as his father (Roger Hendrix Simon) health is deteriorating, and things are not looking good for the once passionate scientist. This continues until parts of a rocket ship fall from the sky, and a still somewhat skeptical Cameron decides to throw caution to the wind and plan his own space expedition.

Cameron Edwin (Jim Gaffigan), the host of an unsuccessful children’s science TV show called Above and Beyond, has always dreamed of becoming an astronaut. After a mysterious space race-era satellite accidentally falls from space and lands in his backyard, his midlife crisis manifests itself in a plan to rebuild the machine into the rocket of his dreams. As his relationship with his wife (Rhea Seehorn) and daughter (Kaitlin Nakon) begins to strain, surreal events begin to unfold around him - a doppelganger moves into the house next door, a car falls from the sky, and an unusual teenage boy forges a friendship with him. He slowly begins to piece these events together to eventually reveal that there is more to his life story than he once thought.

Linoleum was highly acclaimed when it premiered at SXSW and was even nominated for the festival’s best short story award. Some examples of critical praise can be seen in the trailer. own collider Ross Bonime also received an incredible rating for the film and named it one of the best films of the SXSW 2022 festival, declaring Linoleum as “amazing, beautiful and weird” and giving it an A-.
