As phase 4 of the MCU comes to an end with Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverPhase 5 is coming very soon with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania a new phase begins in 2023. From November 2019 Peyton Reid was attached to direct the third installment of the series and wrap up the story of the titular small and mighty hero, becoming only the second MCU director to complete the trilogy after John Watts’ to work on Spiderman movies. While there’s no word yet on whether this will be Ant-Man’s last appearance or not, Marvel’s 31st film should be an epic start to this next chapter for the character and the entire Cinematic Universe.
Ant-Man the series was an underrated part of the Marvel repertoire that provided some comedic relief against all the serious or space action of the other films. Third Ant-Man the film will start next year’s film list, with its release date set for February 17, 2023. The date has undergone some changes as it has been temporarily moved to July 28, 2023. On October 24, 2022, Marvel finally released the long-awaited trailer. What is the plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania?
The trailer for the movie goes to great lengths to keep much of the plot under wraps given the serious implications that are likely to take place in this story. Some teasers were provided during San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, including Rudd mentioning Scott’s new life as he rides the coattails of fame after helping the Avengers. The film continues with the same powerful cast as the 2018 film. Randall Park confirmed that he will return as Agent Jimmy Woo, who also starred in the previous film and notably returned to WandaVision. Unfortunately, Scott’s favorite loser friends Louis, Dave, and Kurt (played by Michael Peña, TI, as well as David Dastmalchyan respectively) is reportedly not returning, most likely due to the film being predominantly set in the quantum realm. As for other comedy stars, Bill Murray made the news as a big addition to the cast as Kraylar, a former acquaintance of Janet Van Dyne’s.
Another major star in the cast is Jonathan Majors, who will play prolific villain Kang the Conqueror after previously playing a variant of himself, He Who Remains, in last year’s Disney+ series. It was also revealed during the SDCC that the villain MODOK would appear in the film, but the actor playing the role has yet to be revealed. Gregg Turkington will also return as Dale, manager of Baskin-Robbins. It was also reported that Corey Stoll may return as some version of Darren Cross/Yellowjacket, the villain from the first Ant-Man a movie that was crushed into the Quantum Realm at the end of that movie’s climactic final battle. In more recent news William Jackson Harper (A good place) also had an unnamed role in the film.
When and where was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania filmed?
Pre-production began in February 2021, and filming took place in Cappadocia and other regions of Turkey. Filming continued at Pinewood Studios in the UK in July and continued through November. Additional filming also took place in San Francisco in June 2022.
