While it may sound like an all-out horror movie idea, the bear swallowing massive amounts of cocaine actually happened in 1985, and this real-life event served as the basis for the upcoming thriller. Quoting Raimi and John Carpenterthe actress said, “This is for me, the heart of the movie, the reason I did it wasn’t necessarily because of the crazy bear. I really love these films. love sam raimi and i love john carpenter and i felt like this was an opportunity…it’s set in 1985 so it’s a real opportunity to pay homage to some of those movies but also to do something that’s also really unique because that it’s also part of the character.”

The director went on to add that she wanted the audience to experience the same emotions as Jaws as well as Jurassic Park did for her.
The upcoming thriller is inspired by the Colombian drug trade in 1985. The drug plane crashed over the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia, spilling 40 kilos of cocaine. The black bear, also called “Pablo Esco Bear” or aptly called “Cocaine Bear”, later came across drugs in the woods and later died of an overdose.
