First teaser trailer Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was released, providing fans with an exciting preview of 90s nostalgia and a fresh set of characters in this release for transformers a series of films. It is planned that this addition will be the first part of a new trilogy, which follows the same continuity as bumblebee since 2018. Inspired by 1996 Transformers: Beastern wars TV show, this movie will feature two new Transformers factions: the animalistic Maximals and the dangerous Terrorcons. The teaser trailer provides a first look at the extended roster of Transformers ready to hit the big screen, so we’ll take a look and prepare for the action that’s on the way.
Prime Meets Primal
The trailer doesn’t hold water and quickly plunges viewers into the action with a shot of a huge mechanical gorilla jumping onto the stage and beating its chest like King Kong. This shot is a breathtaking moment for fans of the extended transformers The universe as it shows the leader of the Maximals, Optimus Primal, in all his power. The name is also not a typo; Optimus Primal is the leader of the Maximals in the same vein as Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. In the TV show, the Maximals were a faction of Transformers descended from the Autobots who continue to fight for their home against evil forces. Although not confirmed by the trailer, it is likely that the Maximals also came from the future along with Primal voiced by Ron Perlman, warning Optimus Prime of impending danger “from both your past and your future”. The defining factor that makes the Maximals different is their choice of transformation, as these robots disguise themselves as animals rather than vehicles, which explains the image of a giant robotic gorilla opposing Optimus Prime himself. The meeting between Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal is a confrontation between two righteous forces destined to become powerful allies, with a design taken straight from the classics. transformers as well as TV show “Transformers: Animal Wars”.
Prime, played by his most recognizable voice actor Peter Cullenshown with its new design matching bumblebee continuity. Its design harks back to the classic ’80s show, with a square frame and the return of its iconic faceplate.
The return to classic form is also evident in his vehicle form, as Prime is shown traveling across the bridge in his vintage flat-nosed truck form, styled in his bright red, blue, and silver colors.
Need for Speed
We were also given a glimpse of Bumblebee’s redesigned look from his 2018 film. Bridging the gap between the 80s and 2000s versions of the character, this updated bee has all the recognizable traits of a bot in an updated yet retro design. Although Bee was the star of the previous transformers movie, it looks like he’ll be sharing the spotlight with other new additions to the cast.
The trailer also introduces us to Noah and Mirage. Noah being played Anthony Ramos, will take an important position as a human ally for the Autobots. Continuing the legacy of Sam Witwicky, Noah is shown in a frenzy as his car, emblazoned with the familiar Autobot logo, takes control and forces him on the run from the police.
His new car and partner Mirage will be voiced by Pete Davidson and takes the chance to show the reason for his name by creating several decoy holograms to help them escape their pursuers. The heart of live-action Transformers movies has always been the human characters who serve as the link to otherworldly robots.
Maximums Maximums
The trailer continues to share an expanded roster of robots in disguise in a series of breathtaking action shots. We see Bumblebee in a more off-road oriented vehicle mode than previous forms. Next to him is the next Maximal, with whom we get acquainted: Cheetor. A running, mechanized cheetah looms over B, making it clear that while the Maximals get their alternate modes from animals, they are altered versions that look more Cybertronian than Earth. The interaction between the two yellow bots will be exciting for fans as both Bumblebee and Cheetor play the role of “little brothers” among their factions. They are both fast, confident, yellow and have a youthfulness that makes them an integral part of their team’s dynamics.
Maximals and Terrorcons are revealed in quick succession. There is a brief glimpse of Airazor hovering, voiced Michelle Yeoh. Maximal shows off his dynamic falcon mode and explosive flamethrower. Airazor was an intelligence specialist for the Maximals and had one of the most unique storylines in the original series. Of the Maximals in the ’90s show, Airazor was one of only two bots to have their landing pod damaged on Earth, leading to a closer relationship with her bestial form as a means of survival.
Following the falcon, we see Arcee, the most iconic female Autobot. Although she has previously appeared in some live-action films, this version of the character appears to play a larger and more dynamic role in this film. Her design, like Prime’s, resembles her appearance in the original television series, but has been updated to a modern aesthetic. Given the abundance of male Transformers in the franchise, Arcee’s inclusion is an exciting development for the series. She is seen grabbing onto a Volkswagen van to help her cross the road and fight back against her opponent. True to the “Robots in Disguise” tagline, the VW van itself is actually just another Autobot in their alternate mode. Wheeljack, one of the best Autobot scientists, made a brief appearance in bumblebee and eschews the conventional look it had in other versions to take on the form of a more discreet van in this trailer. Lisa Koshy Arcee’s voices and Cristo Fernandez will voice Wheeljack.
We also see Rhinox in his bestial form, opening his jaw to fire an energy blast. Mechanical Rhino is another powerful Maximal and a staunch ally of Primal and his cause. David Sobolov will be the voice actor for Rhinox and is actually a returning player from the original 1990s TV show, although he voiced a different character in this series.
the terrorcons terrorize
While there are no Decepticons in this trailer, there is no shortage of villains in this episode as we get to see the Terrorcons for the first time. This faction of Transformers is supposed to have a deep connection to the Autobots, either from their past or their future. We first see Battletrap in both his orange armored truck mode and robot form attacking Autobots and Maxims. Sobolov plays two roles in the film, in addition to Rhinox, he also voices Battletrap.
Scourge, the leader of these mysterious Terrorcons, makes an unforgettable impression as he completely dominates Bumblebee in combat. The fight feels brutal and Bee seems to be in serious danger, showing the huge threat the Terrorcons pose to our heroes. With Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal working together, Scourge will be an incredibly strong antagonist for the heroes. Peter Dinklage will be the voice of the Terrorcon leader.
We see our heroes and villains face off in a dynamic sequence that briefly flashes the robotic forms of Optimus Primal and Cheetor.
Partners in Crime
The trailer closes with a moment of humanity focusing on Elena, one of the film’s other main characters. Dominic Fishback portrays this role and, in classic Transformers fashion, seems completely underwhelmed by the prospect of a transforming robot/motorbike.
By the end of the trailer, we meet Noah and Mirage again. The two seem to have developed a stronger bond and synergy as the former confidently steps out of the car while the latter seamlessly transforms into his robot form around him.
Autobots will hit the market and Maxims will be maxed out on June 9, 2023 when it premieres Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
