Actor Leslie Grace shared a new video with a compilation of various behind-the-scenes moments from the already canceled Bat Girl movie on tik tok. The actor can be seen throwing punches, hanging from harnesses, sitting in the makeup chair, and generally having fun on set. Although the video certainly makes you think about all the action sequences that we will never see fully implemented.
In August, Warner Bros Discovery canceled the direct jump feature to HBO Max for tax reasons. Made Billall Fallah as well as Adil El Arbi on a budget of $90 million, the film was close to completion in post-production. The controversial decision not only caught the talents involved in the film by surprise, but also met with disapproval from fans who rallied behind the film’s release. The decision comes after Warner Bros merged with Discovery earlier this year as the new CEO. David Zaslav decided to make some drastic changes to scripted content production. His reasoning was that the studio was not going to release the film if “we don’t believe it”. In addition, streaming service HBO Max will be merged with Discovery+, a reality TV platform, in the near future.
Reportedly, the president of DC Films, Walter Hamada was forced to seek advice and was on the verge of leaving, however he decided to stay until his release Dwayne Johnsonforthcoming Black Adam. However, since the new mode went into effect, many fan-favorite features have been removed, a decision that has not been well received by DC fans and cast members. Actors love Brendan Fraser as well as Michael Keaton recently came forward to show their frustration at the cancellation. Along with portraying Grace as the first Afro-Hispanic Batgirl (a.k.a. Barbara Gordon), the film would have featured Frasier as the villain Firefly, which would have marked Keaton’s return to Batman’s cape and hood. With a female character not only Bat Girl was a huge step in the inclusive direction for superhero films, but it also promised to showcase marginalized voices through a diverse cast.
The WBD’s unprecedented decision not only took fans, cast and crew by surprise, but it also sparked a variety of responses from the industry itself, many of which are now rethinking the film business as well as talent relationships. Meanwhile, the studio now supports features like Johnson. Black Adam, Ezra MillerXFlash, Zachary LevyX Shazam! Fury of the gods and James Wan-directed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa.
