Quinta Brunsoncreator of the hit ABC sitcom abbot elementarybecame the second black woman to win an Emmy Award for writing a comedy series.
On September 12, the Philadelphia native won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for her work on the hit sitcom. She is the first black woman to win solo and the second black woman to win in this category after Lena Waite received an award for Master of Nothing in 2017. Waite shared her 2017 win with Aziz Ansari for the Thanksgiving series.
Brunson walked the gold carpet in a stunning Dolce and Gabbana metallic gown. Upon receiving the award, Brunson thanked ABC, Disney, Fox and Warner Bros, saying, “It takes so many people to make a TV show. I have to thank Justin and Patrick, my co-showrunners, for believing in a four year old story.” She also attributed her success Larry WilmoreX support and mentoring, thanking him “for teaching me how to write for television as well as he did.”
When asked about her stunning Emmy look, Brunson spoke about the inspiration during an interview with E! Live from the Red Carpet. “I really wanted something that made me feel wah wom, but also respectful,” she told the host. Laverne Cox. “I feel like I have to do three jobs at once: an actress, a producer, and a writer, so it can be difficult to find something that I would be comfortable in all three, but still wear something that makes me feel good, sexy and proud. .”
