Thousands of people gathered at London’s Wembley Stadium on 3 September for a rock and roll evening in honor of Fu Fightersdeceased drummer, Taylor Hawkins. This starry evening was attended by Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher, Brian May as well as Roger Taylor from Queen and many others who put on an epic night.

The show was the first of two Hawkins tribute concerts. The show was opened by Gallagher, who played two Oasis’, “Rock and Roll Star” and the very appropriate “Live Forever”. Later brother of Hawkins Justin Hawkins joined forces with Josh Freese as well as Riders on coattails - the band formed by Taylor Hawkins - for performing “Louise”, “It’s Over” and one of Taylor Hawkins’ solo songs “Range Rover Bitch”.

Justin won’t be the only member of the Hawkins family to take the stage. Taylor’s 16 year old son. Shane Hawkins joined the Foo Fighters for the penultimate song of the entire concert and an epic rendition of their hit “My Hero”.

A little later on the show, Brain May and Roger Taylor (along with his son Rufus Taylor, who also joined the band for “Best of You”) took the stage with the Foo Fighters for the longest set not part of a Foo Fighters solo set. Queen hits, including “We Will Rock You”, “I’m Love With My Car”, “Under Pressure” (a song Hawkins occasionally covered during Foo Fighters concerts), “Somebody to Love” and “Love of My Life”. played, bringing guests to the stage, including Luke Spiller, Justin Hawkins as well as Sam Ryder.

Right before the Foo Fighters took the stage to close the show McCartney — with whom Grohl recently appeared on stage at Glastonbury — went out to perform with a little help from friends, including Foo Fighters Grohl and Pat Smear and drummer Omar Hakim. McCartney performed the first ever live performance The Beatles’ “Oh! Darling” from Abbey Road. While “Oh! Darling is by far one of McCartney’s most difficult songs to sing. Chrissie Hynde was there to rid him of those annoying high notes. McCartney ended his evening by playing another Beatle tune, “Helter Skelter”.

The first Taylor Hawkins tribute concert is partially available for streaming on Paramount+ and will be available for on-demand streaming via Pluto TV and MTV TV VOD starting the week of September 5th. Performances from the concert can also be found on YouTube.

Taylor Hawkins’ final tribute concert will take place later this month on September 27 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Although there are some returning bands, newer ones, including Miley Cyrus, Pink as well as Joan Jett, among other things, will be another epic tribute to the late drummer. Concert proceeds will benefit MusiCares.
