It’s nice to be back in Middle-earth thanks to Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. The streamer just recently debuted the first two episodes of a fantasy series based on the works J. R. R. Tolkien, and it looks like the show is already a huge success. The season premiere drew an impressive 25 million viewers worldwide on its first day, eclipsing previously set Prime Video records and becoming the biggest streamer premiere ever.

The works of Tolkien on which the series is based are considered fantasy legends, and therefore it is not surprising that more than twenty years since the release of Peter JacksonX Lord of the Rings trilogy, the stories of Middle-earth still hold great power.

Following the launch of the series in 240 countries and territories worldwide and this new milestone, the head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke commented on this achievement by rewarding the creative team, Tolkien Manor, as well as the millions of fans around the world who made this a good start for another epic adventure. The notes read:

“Somehow it’s fitting that Tolkien’s stories - some of the most popular of all time and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre - led us to this proud moment. I am very grateful to Tolkien Estate, as well as our showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, the cast and crew for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy. And it is the tens of millions of viewers who are clearly passionate about Middle-earth, like us, that are our true measure of success.”

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power offers to return to the Second Age of Middle-earth, starting from peacetime and ending with the forging of rings of power. The series will tell about the events that took place thousands of years before the events in hobbit as well as Lord of the Rings trilogy.
