HBO ‘succession’ the strongest survives. In this corporate jungle, rules are secondary to success. Waystar RoyCo employees are irritable, hungry and determined to rise to the top. Their definition of hard work may not always be moral, but that doesn’t mean the work won’t get done.
When the family business is run Logan RoyThe competition is always fierce. If there’s one lesson a ruthless CEO teaches, it’s that you don’t win by playing well. His children, employees and business partners understand this in their struggle for the top. These worker bees will do whatever it takes to prove they are worthy of being the next CEO of Waystar.
Roman Roy
Roman Roy is one greasy, eloquent and strangely impressive character. Kieran Culkin a brilliant performance initially suggests a shallow rich kid, but Roman gradually proves he knows how to close business deals. He’s rude and a victim of his reputation, but none of that is stopping this worker bee from working his way up to the CEO.
Roman’s impulsive behavior often gets him into trouble, but he proves he can work with what he has. He uses his unique attitude to the benefit of the company. With a strong individual approach to business, Roman Roy makes hard work easy. After all, making deals by letting the CEO of another company piss on your cell phone is not something you are taught in business school.
Frank Vernon
Shakespeare from Waystar. Frank Vernon it is a gentle spirit. He is a rare, seemingly extinct breed in the context of The Heirs. It’s impossible not to give him credit for the hard work it takes to keep that level of head in the Waystar work environment. However, old Frank is not afraid to get his hands dirty. The cooperative mutiny between him and Kendall in the first season proved that Logan Roy’s thirty-year-old confidante isn’t as quiet as he might seem. In the world of Waystar, everyone is chasing the crown.
Frank Vernon is the dark horse of this race. He is quiet, unassuming, and usually keeps to himself. But don’t let the action fool you; this company veteran knows his stuff. While he can’t always bet on the right horse (or Roy), he always manages to crawl back with his big brain intact.
Tom Wambsgans
At first sight, Tom Wambsgans may not seem like the most “ordinary” hard worker. In essence, he married his position in the company. Shiv and Logan toss him wherever they please, and his relationship with his family involves a lot more begging than receiving. However, as the series progresses, this quirky Midwesterner shows that he is not a dog without a fight. He may misbehave in court, but that doesn’t stop the ex-cruise director from revealing his dark side in the epic finale of the series’ third season.
Tom Wambsgans is either the smartest or the dumbest person in the room. There is no intermediate. His affection for the Swarms is obsessive, but is it all a game? Hard work comes in many forms, and Tom Wambsgans may just be a master manipulator.
Rhea Jarrell
Appears at the end of season two, episode four, “Safe Room”. Rhea Jarrell comes in the race for the throne of Waystar. Pierce Global Media’s CEO runs a white whale of media conglomerates, but her quest for dominance doesn’t stop there. As she navigates her way through a potential merger with Waystar, Rhea proves that hard work comes in many forms.
With her cunning tactics and ability to play both sides, Rhea becomes a tough competition for Roy’s kids. She easily wraps Logan Roy around her finger, earning him a recommendation for the post of CEO. Of course, Rhea is too smart to take command of a sinking ship, and the confident businesswoman leaves with clean hands.
Siobhan “Shiv” Roy
Connor Roy may think of himself as a family politician, but this Siobhan Roy who really knows how to play the game. The unwavering daughter remains outside of Waystar’s workforce for most of the series, but that doesn’t stop her from making a fuss from behind the scenes. As her involvement and potential as CEO grows, Siobhan shows how far she will go to make a name for herself in the family company.
Siobhan may be outspoken, but she is also the most socially conscious of all the Swarms. Logan considers Shiv the smartest of all his children. He even promises that she will lead the company. As he retreats, Shiv learns the hard way that you must always get Logan’s word in writing. However, nothing holds back a worker like Shiv. Logan’s lies only seem to motivate, and this former political consultant is on a mission to prove that she is worthy of becoming the next CEO.
Kendall Roy
If a Kendall Roy The iconic rap from Season 2, Episode 8 Dundee has proven to always have something up its sleeve. The family’s second oldest son, Roy, is determined to make it on his own. His passion often gets him into trouble, but it will take a long time to keep this wannabe CEO from sneaking up on the next best business move.
Fool your daddy once; you should be ashamed. Fool him twice; prepare for war. Kendall’s many attempts to take over at the helm of Waystar go against the wishes of the family, but when you’re Roy, family only matters when it’s worth it. Despite what he may wish for, Kendall is an apple that doesn’t fall far from Logan Roy’s tree. Like his father, Kendall has proven time and time again that he is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
Jerry Kellman
Forty years as General Counsel of Waystar Royco is no small feat. For the average person, work can lead to burnout, but for Jerry Kellman, this is far from the norm. Whether dealing with public relations, finance, business deals, or the President of the United States, Jerry keeps his cool. She is not deterred by Waystar’s incessant “dressing room talk” and, in fact, quickly strikes back with a sly remark of her own.
So who better suited to success as CEO than Jerry Kellman? Logan Roy may have made the best business decision when he handed over the company to Jerry in the Season 3 premiere episode, “The Secession.” Logan may have only done this with the certainty that Jerry was only acting like a puppet, but with a mind as sharp as hers, Mr. Roy might just want to sit back and let CEO Kellman get to work.
Logan Roy
When you approach the king, you better not miss. Logan Roy, a ruthless businessman and founder of Waystar Royco, is not a CEO to play with. Hailing from the humble town of Dundee, Scotland, much of Logan’s upbringing is shrouded in mystery. However, one thing is certain about this hard worker: business comes first.
It’s impossible not to give Logan credit when he discusses the work ethic in Succession. He did not take his place by chance. Managing the fifth largest media conglomerate in the world is no easy task. His moral compass may be a little skewed, but this legendary CEO is always one step ahead of the game, and more importantly, his kids.
