I will give you a brief synopsis of the new Peacock series, Resortbut nothing prepares you for the twists and turns that take place in this series throughout the entire eight-episode cycle.

Made Andy Ciara, Resort stars Christine Milioti as well as William Jackson Harper like Emma and Noah, a married couple who travel to the Riviera Maya to celebrate their anniversary. While there, they learn about unsolved mysteries that happened 15 years ago and become obsessed with finding the truth. Although this is largely a starting point Resortthis description barely scratches the surface of what Ciara explores in this story, which is essentially a multi-generational account of our relationship with time.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

If you are looking for more information about these layers and the big swings of Ciara & Co. take part in the show, we will provide you in this department! Ciara and actors Luis Gerardo Mendez, Nina Bloomgardenas well as Gabriela Kartol everyone visited the Collider interview studio at San Diego Comic-Con to tease what to expect from the show.

Resort really has a bit of everything to offer – the coming-of-age components, the mystery, the romance, the disaster movie elements, and then some more – so I asked Ciara which of the group was the hardest to write. Here’s what he said:

“I don’t think about genres that much. It seems to me that while the tone remains constant, and I think that our tone is constantly changing from stupid to sincere. It’s really hard to balance because sometimes we can be too stupid and sometimes we get too melodramatic so we always want to undermine it with stupidity. But I feel that as long as we have control over that, you can easily jump into any genre. And a lot of it is just to entertain me while I’m writing. I get bored very easily in life. But on [a] very practical level, the most difficult thing was that there are elements of a disaster film, and it is difficult to shoot a disaster film. It’s still a small scale for the show, but it was the hardest thing to pull off in terms of production.”

As far as where the characters go within the genre and tonal blending, Carthol, Mendes and Bloomgarden have each pinpointed the anchor for their character, something that, no matter how wild the story gets, can always be revisited to ensure solutions and actions are in line with character. Kartol, who plays Luna, the resort’s concierge, began:

“I think playing this character on two stages, 15 years ago and now, was a blessing. So in that sense, I think what you understood changed for me, that was my anchor, because I was thinking, “What was she thinking 15 years ago? Who was this man 15 years ago?” And I brought him to me. I thought, “Who was Gabriella 15 years ago?” And I didn’t recognize myself in who I am now, so I put that into Luna and thought, “Okay, maybe she was this, that, and that, but in her present, family matters most.” know? Now she is a mother and married so I think you need to balance that now. Yes, the golden years were amazing, but now you have your gift, and your gift is wonderful too, and most importantly, family at the end of the day.”

Mendez takes over as Baltasar Frias, Head of Security at the Oceana Vista Resort in 2007. Here’s what he told us about what drives his character:

“I think it’s about proof [to] to the world that he is enough, proving to the world that he can unravel these mysteries. He comes from a very powerful family in Yucatan and he doesn’t want to belong to that family anymore and he needs to create a new version of himself and he is obsessed with detective novels and he wants to be the best detective in the world and the first time he got real case, he can’t solve it, and now he has the opportunity to do it 15 years later. So there’s always this really big desire to prove that he’s had enough, which I think is really touching and sad, and I think that each of us can relate to that feeling in a certain way, so I think that was a simple key to unraveling.”

As for Bloomgarden, she plays Violet Thompson, a young woman vacationing with her father (Nick Offerman) that connects with Skyler GisondoSam, who is vacationing with his parents and girlfriend.

“I think Violet is really fearless and kind of marches to her own tune, and I think it gets wilder and wilder as the show goes on. And I think it’s just trust because she’s grieving, so I think believing that grief is a mess and your 20s is a mess and just combine both of those things and then deal with Sam, character Skyler Gisondo, on top of that, they’re just kind of rooted in this mess together.”
