Peacock has released another trailer for its upcoming horror slasher. They themthat puts its star Kevin Baconin a somewhat more terrifying light than the actor’s other roles in stomach-churning productions such as sleepers (return!). Forms around a plot that makes us say, “Why didn’t we think of that?” They them will monitor disturbing developments at the conversion therapy center. Conversion centers themselves are abusive nightmare sites where LGBTQIA+ parents or guardians can send their “lovers” in hopes of “converting” them to reform. But with writer and director John LoganX (skyfall, Gladiator) personal attitude towards them, the “revenge gay” centers have become much colder.
In the trailer, we get to know the place at the center of it all - Camp Whistler. Run by Owen Whistler (Bacon), the director of a conversion camp welcomes a bus full of teenagers who are not thrilled that next week a degrading program will be their home. When they take away the only thing that connects vacationers with the outside world - their mobile phones - we know that everything is about to become a reality. The rest of the trailer revolves around teenagers struggling with the environment they’ve been placed in through ongoing therapy sessions reminiscent of Get out. But beneath the surface of an already unsettling group camp, an even deeper evil emerges as the killer begins to crack down on victims left and right.
Along with Bacon, a new generation of talented performers will come to the fore in this feature, including Theo Germain (Politician), Kay Tann (Dear white people), Austin Cool (Dawn), Monique Kim (Looks that kill), Anna Lohr (Gotham Knights), Cooper Koch (Book of Power II: Ghost), as well as Darwin Del Fabro. we will also see Anna Chlumsky (Inventing Anna, My girlfriend) as well as Carrie Preston (Good wife, Good fight) take on roles alongside Bacon’s Whistler as collaborators seeking to “fix” vacationers at all costs.
In addition to having a legendary director like Logan back the production, Peacock’s latest horror film is being produced by a horror master, Jason Bloom (Get out, Invisible Man), as well as Michael Aguilar (Penny Dreadful, joking). The executive production team consists of Bacon, Logan, Scott Turner, Howie Youngas well as John Romano.
As creepy as it is, the trailer for the movie They them shows us that the film will be filled with screamers, reflecting the current state of how people who belong to the LGBTQIA+ community are treated. If you like They them and want to catch a lighter version of a similar story, can we suggest you continue it with the 1999 classic (another throwback!) But I’m a cheerleader.
