According to the study “Payment preferences of Poles 2024”, conducted for Fiserv Polska, Poles most often resort to cashless payments in supermarkets, pharmacies and gas stations. We rarely pay in this way with shoemakers and tailors.

The study “Payment preferences of Poles 2024”, carried out for Fiserv Polska, shows that the most popular place where Polish shoppers make cashless payments are supermarkets (74 percent). Pharmacies come in second (58 percent), slightly ahead of gas stations (57 percent). ).

Where else do we pay cashless?

The next places on the list were pharmacies and cosmetics stores (47%), small local shops and bakeries (45%) and restaurants (42%).

Poles least often pay by bank transfer in shoe and sewing workshops (6%), as well as for additional classes and tutoring (4%).

– As in the first edition of our research, supermarkets are the place where we most often pay with a card, phone or watch. This answer was currently given by 74 percent. Poles. Supermarkets are most popular regardless of the place of residence and education of respondents - comments the President of Fiserv Polska, Krzysztof Polonczyk.

The study also shows that consumers are also willing to use additional services available at payment terminals, such as: paying with loyalty cards, gift cards or product coupons (25%), withdrawing cash from the store’s cash register, the so-called. cashback (22%) or phone top-up (17%).

– As for cashback, that is, withdrawing cash from a store’s cash register, like from an ATM, 22 percent used it. respondents and is in third place in our study. At the same time, this service is most popular among the youngest respondents aged 18 to 29 years, so it can be predicted that more and more people will use it in the future - emphasizes Polonchik.

Other additional services that Poles enjoy include: the ability to leave a tip, for example, in a restaurant (15%), purchase a public transport pass directly to a payment card (10%) or deposit cash on the card at the checkout of a store, as is the case with cash deposit machine (7%).

The study was carried out on behalf of Fiserv Polska - owner of the PolCard brand from Fiserv - using the computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) method by the Institute of Market and Social Research (IBRiS) in January 2024. A representative group of adult Poles took part in the study. Sample n = 1000.
