Only seven Sundays in 2023 are scheduled as commercial Sundays. The next one is scheduled for this month. Will it drop on June 4th?

  • When are Sunday auctions?

  • Exceptions to the Trade Prohibition Act

Shopping on Sunday can only be done seven times a year. Three such cases are behind us, and the next one is fast approaching. On June 25, all shopping centers and shops will work as on weekdays. This means June 4th is another non-trading Sunday. Then we will only shop at certain places.

When are Sunday auctions?

Trading Sundays in 2023 are scheduled for:

  • January 29;

  • April 2;

  • April 30;

  • June 25;

  • August 27;

  • December 17;

  • December 24th.

Other non-trading days

Not only on Sunday we can’t shop. There are several other official holidays throughout the year. Then another and a complete ban on trade. Among them:

  • New Year (January 1);

  • Epiphany (January 6);

  • Easter (in 2023 April 9);

Exceptions to the Trade Prohibition Act

The law prohibiting trading on Sundays and public holidays came into force in 2018. It aims to give sales people more time for themselves. Thanks to this, it will be easier for them to combine personal and professional affairs. However, there are a few places that have been exempted from this ban. Open every Sunday:

  • gas stations;

  • animal hospitals;

  • restaurants and bars;

  • confectionery and bakeries;

  • cinemas;

  • pharmacies;

  • shops operating at the station or at the airport;

  • stores where the owner is behind the counter.

If the entrepreneur decides to work for himself on Sunday, he can open a store. The rule applies to small residential complexes, as well as to the Żabka or Carrefour Express chains.
