The Senate made a decision on the budget

after 17 senators voted for the adoption of the law on the budget for this year with the majority of amendments. Earlier, the Senate Budget and Public Finance Committee considered 81 amendments to the 2023 budget law. The vast majority of them received support.

The Senate approved the budget. What fixes?

Let’s remind, that in the middle of December of the last year the Diet has accepted the law on the budget for this year. According to it, budget expenditures will amount to PLN 672.7 billion, revenues - PLN 604.7 billion, and the budget deficit cannot exceed PLN 68 billion.

Among the amendments supported by members of the upper house of parliament were, in particular: an increase in the budget of the National Health Fund (NHF) by PLN 6.5 billion to compensate for the fund for the termination of state funding for certain tasks of the health service, as well as an increase in spending on cancer treatment in children by 2 billion zlotys. Other amendments concern an increase in the cost of child psychiatry by PLN 700 million and the allocation of PLN 500 million for in vitro infertility treatment.

As part of the amendments, the senators also proposed deleting a provision whereby public radio and television would receive PLN 2.7 billion in bonds (according to the provisions of the law, TVP and Polish Radio would receive this amount in bonds as compensation for lost profits). by subscription).

Senators also supported the change in average annual inflation from 9.8 to 9.8 percent. to 13.1 percent, that is, to the level predicted by the National Bank of Poland (NBP).

Now the bill on the budget will return to the Diet.
