The Danish operator of the recently commissioned gas pipeline Baltic Pipe announced a planned cessation of its operation. Norwegian gas will not flow to Poland around the clock.
Energinet, the Danish operator of a section of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, announced a planned cessation of gas supplies from the Norwegian continental shelf. This is a temporary suspension of the infrastructure.
The Baltic Pipe is temporarily not pumping
According to the Danish company, the reasons for the suspension of supplies, which are scheduled for 24 hours from 6:00 am on November 28, are related to the need for technical work that will allow the gas pipeline to run at full capacity. .
Thus, the suspension of supplies will be temporary, but will eventually lead to the launch of the gas pipeline in its final form, which will allow the full implementation of the gas contracts assumed by both parties. Energinet is counting on reaching the full capacity of the plant, i.e. throughput at the level of 10 billion cubic meters. per year, will be reached on November 30. This was made possible by the launch of a new press plant in South Zealand.
Gas comes to Poland from Norway
The first batch of Norwegian gas arrived in Poland on November 1, exactly one month after the planned opening of the facility. Currently, 6 million cubic meters of raw materials from Norway are pumped to Poland daily. By the end of November, the capacity should be increased.
The official launch ceremony took place on 27 September. It was attended by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen. Discussions on this issue began as early as the 1990s, but, as President Andrzej Duda emphasized, the actual work began in 2016. The President drew attention to the importance of launching the gas pipeline right now, when “we have something that the biggest pessimists did not predict, that Russia will completely turn off the gas valve”.
