Many producers are considering temporarily suspending production during a period of sharp increases in prices for materials, raw materials and energy, which could disrupt the supply chain and cause a temporary shortage of pasta on the shelves, says Marek Dąbrowski, President of the Polish Chamber of Noodles, in an interview with portalspozywczy.pl.
Marek Dąbrowski, President of the Polish Pasta Chamber, gave an interview to the pozywczy.pl portal. In an interview, Dombrowski emphasizes that currently the biggest problem for the Polish Chamber of Noodles is “the instability and unpredictability of market conditions, which are caused by high inflation, the lack of regulation of energy and gas prices for future periods, an increase in the price of all components of production, including prices for egg mass, an increase in the minimum wage, an increase in financial costs, a several-fold increase in gas prices is predicted. Dąbrowski acknowledges that there is a nervous atmosphere among producers, and many of them are considering a temporary suspension of production, which could lead to a temporary shortage of pasta on store shelves.
Will pasta disappear from stores?
- Nervousness reigns among manufacturers, they plan production in short terms, for example, monthly, and lose faith in the future. With such sharp changes in prices for the main raw materials, it is very difficult to do business, including pasta Dombrowski says. - Many producers are considering temporarily shutting down production during a period of material, raw material and energy price surges that could disrupt the supply chain and cause a temporary shortage of pasta on the shelves. he adds.
In an interview, the president of the Polish Pasta Chamber emphasizes that producers are facing a “complicated and uneven process of negotiating new contracts for the next season.” - Customers such as: discount chains, supermarkets, franchise chains, wholesalers expect price announcements for annual or semi-annual periods. Some merchants think manufacturers have the proverbial “magic glass balls” and can predict the future. Business is not fortune telling. Those who follow rationality cannot, based on today’s knowledge, announce prices for their products for longer than a quarter Dombrovsky explains.
The interlocutor of the portal emphasizes that, from the point of view of manufacturers, “in such a difficult geopolitical situation it is impossible to conclude contracts for a period of more than three months.”
The Polish Pasta Chamber has applied to the Ministry of State Assets for support of food producers. Asked if there is an answer on the matter, Dombrovsky says the organization is still waiting for him.
