An accident involving a cyclist in Zielona Góra at first looked harmless. It later emerged that the victim’s injuries were serious. But there was a problem with the culprit of the event.
According to the police, the example of a collision with a cyclist on Vyshinsky Street in Zielona Góra shows that an initially harmless event can have more serious consequences. This led to a broken wrist and an accident investigation.
As we read, Zielona Góra is a city of cyclists, many bike paths and an infrastructure that facilitates the movement of two-wheeled vehicles encourage residents to use this mode of transport. “Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to dangerous situations when car drivers “forget” to give way to cyclists and do not check if two-wheelers are approaching the intersection,” says Junior Inspector Malgorzata Barska from the Main Directorate of the Municipal Police of Zielona Góra.
It seemed stupid
Such an event took place on Vyshinsky Street. Driving a Toyota Yaris, a 74-year-old resident of Zielona Góra, leaving Vishneva Street, did not notice a cyclist passing through a bicycle crossing and knocked him down. The cyclist, also a 74-year-old resident of Zielona Góra, fell on the road. The driver of the car stopped and offered to help, but the cyclist said she was fine and didn’t need help. As it turned out in the afternoon of the same day, the injured cyclist, however, was injured. A 74-year-old woman went to the doctor with pain in her arm. Diagnosis - epiphyseal fracture of the wrist joint. The next day, the victim applied to the Zielona Góra police station, where, after filing a complaint, a traffic accident case was opened.
It was hard to find the culprit
“Unfortunately, the victim did not have any information about who committed the skirmish,” says Junior Inspector Malgorzata Barska. - Fortunately, the area of this intersection is under municipal monitoring. The police checked the recording - it turned out that the moment of the accident was visible, unfortunately, it was not possible to read the registration numbers of the car from the tape. However, the investigating police officer noticed that a public transport bus was passing by the scene. Thanks to cooperation with the City Transport Company in Zielona Góra, the bus was recorded and the license plates were read.
The investigator called the owner of the car for questioning. It turned out that on the day of the collision, her 74-year-old mother was driving the car. The police officer questioned the named perpetrator of the collision, who heard the accusation of the accident and pleaded guilty. The decision on the form of termination of the proceedings is taken by the prosecutor in charge of the case.
