Registration of electric and hybrid vehicles, August 2022

In August 2022, there were 199,183 passenger cars registered in Germany, according to the Federal Road Transport Office. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this resulted in an increase of 3.0 percent.

The number of new cars with gasoline engines increased by 1.2 percent to 69,515 compared to the same month last year, their share was 34.9 percent. The share of passenger cars with a diesel engine in the registration statistics was 18.2 percent (36,251 cars) after an increase of 6.3 percent.

With 32,006 new electrified drive registrations, electric vehicles account for a 10.9 percent increase and a 16.1 percent share. In addition, 59,835 hybrids were registered (-1.46%/30.0%), including 24,719 plug-in hybrids (+0.91%/12.4%).

Average CO2 emissions of new registered passenger cars in August decreased by 1.3 percent compared to the same month last year and amounted to 113.2 g/km.
