Lidl meets feminine standards: pink boxes in the workplace

In recent years, more and more companies are paying attention to gender equality and creating a friendly working environment. One example is Lidl Polska, where women make up almost 75%. employed employees. The company decided to meet the needs of its employees by providing them with access to all necessary hygiene products, i.e. pink boxes.

In an era of changing corporate standards, Lidl Polska meets the special needs of its employees by taking steps to create a friendly working environment, especially for women. Planned changes include installing pink boxes in women’s restrooms across all company stores, warehouses and offices.

Adorned with the slogan ‘#WOMEN’, they contain essential hygiene products such as tampons, sanitary pads, sanitary pads and intimate wipes. The goal is not only to improve the comfort of employees, but also to promote gender equality in the workplace.

The boxes are the result of last year’s tests – they appeared between March and May 2023 in the sales offices of Pruszcz Gdański and Tarnów. Company employees reacted positively to the action:

– I think it’s a great idea. I am very honored and grateful, because we – women – also go to work on so-called “unavailable days”.said one of the employees.

The Problem of Period Poverty

It is also worth noting that the Lidl Polska initiative aims to reduce the phenomenon of period poverty. This is a problem that many women around the world face. Additionally, this phenomenon often goes unnoticed because access to feminine hygiene products may not seem to be an issue. However, things are different and the barrier is financial constraints.

Providing free tampons, sanitary napkins, pads and wipes to female employees is aimed at mitigating this problem. Such initiatives not only raise the standard of care for employees, but also raise public awareness of the existing problems associated with period poverty.

“To further enhance convenience, we have introduced drawers in women’s restrooms that contain essential feminine products. #Kobiety boxes have already been installed in most of our offices, stores and warehouses, and in January we will complete their installation in the last two sales offices. I am confident that this gesture will not only improve the comfort of women in our company, but through it we will create an environment where sanitary pads and tampons are treated on par with other basic everyday products. Personally, I am glad that this initiative was received very positively – – says Marta Florczak, Member of the Human Resources Board at Lidl Polska.

Diversity-focused policies

Lidl has already signed the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP) in 2020 and has expanded its collaboration with UNGC to include education activities. He also regularly receives Top Employer awards.

By the end of January, pink boxes will be installed in all women’s toilets in stores, warehouses and offices.

In total, the company has more than 1,000 boxes on site. Inside are tampons, panty liners, sanitary pads and intimate wipes. Articles will be updated regularly. The introduction of pink boxes is a symbolic gesture, but at the same time a real change in women’s daily lives.
