Chairman of the Supreme Court was detained on a bribe of almost three million dollars

In total, for two and a half thousand dollars of a bribe, the head of the Baryshevsky court received 8.5 years in prison. And how much do Supreme Court justices get for a three million dollar bribe? Well, if this case is brought to court. And then somewhere “along the way” it may turn out that this is not a bribe, but simply someone sowed.

“NABU and SAP exposed large-scale corruption in the Supreme Court, namely a scheme for obtaining improper benefits by the leadership and judges of the Supreme Court. Immediate investigations are underway”, the NABU press service said on Monday evening, promising to subsequently tell the details. And she accompanied the message with a photograph of dollars neatly laid out on the sofa. And not in separate bills, as often happens, but in neatly tied bundles (about 10 thousand dollars each).

According to Zerkalo Nedeli, these $3 million (although it looks like $4.5 million in the photo) were confiscated from Supreme Court Chairman Vsevolod Knyazev. The judge was arrested. Another 18 judges of the Supreme Court, who heard the case on the ownership of a part of the shares of the Poltava mining and processing plant (PGOK) Ferrexpo, are being searched. Zerkalo’s source in NABU claims that Knyazev received this money for a court decision in favor of Konstantin Zhevago, who controls PGOK.

According to FACTS, judicial red tape has been going on for a decade and a half. A number of companies associated with Igor Kolomoisky at one time sold more than 40 percent of the plant’s shares. But then she applied to the court with a request to recognize the sale and purchase agreements as invalid and return the shares to them. The courts of different instances either refused to satisfy the claim, or recognized these agreements as invalid and ordered the shares to be returned. Until the case reached the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, which in April left these shares to Ferrexpo AG.

If the information about the detention of Knyazev is confirmed, then the Supreme Court will be left without leadership - the deputy chairman of the Supreme Court has not yet been appointed. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Plenum of the Supreme Court actually confirmed the detention of the chairman of the Supreme Court, reporting on Facebook about the extraordinary meeting of the Plenum: “Dear Judges of the Supreme Court! In connection with the events taking place around the Chairman of the Supreme Court Knyazev V.S., on May 16, 2023, an extraordinary meeting of the Plenum of the Supreme Court will be held”.
