The Polish National Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation into the Russian invasion of Ukraine will also examine the role of former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, against whom the EU planned to impose sanctions, in the preparation of the invasion, RMF FM journalists write.
According to them, the National Prosecutor’s Office of Poland received a notification of a possible criminal offense by Gerhard Schroeder. The investigation is conducted by the Mazowiecki Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption.
According to the documents obtained by the investigation, the German politician could use positions in the Russian energy sector to further pressure the EU countries and Ukraine. Investigators will also look into what role the former chancellor played in the preparations for the invasion. The report notes that despite the start of Russian aggression, Schroeder did not distance himself from the Kremlin and continued to hold positions in Russian energy companies.
Polish investigators are conducting an investigation in consultation with Ukrainian ones. They have now interviewed nearly 2,000 witnesses.
The other day it became known that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and several other German politicians attended a reception organized by the Russian Embassy on the occasion of May 9th.
