Popular Hollywood actor Dolph Lundgren admitted that he had been battling cancer for the past eight years. His first tumor was diagnosed in 2015. One of the kidneys was damaged. The tumor was removed. However, the deadly disease returned.
The 65-year-old action hero spoke about his health problems in detail during an interview he gave on the YouTube channel In Depth With Graham Bensinger.
After the first operation, Lundgren was examined every six months for five years. “It’s been a quiet five years”, he added. The illness seemed to leave him alone.
However, in 2020, during a follow-up examination, he was suddenly diagnosed with six new tumors in the same area. The doctor said that one of them was too large to remove and prescribed systemic treatment.
In the fall of 2021, Dolph came to London to film the sequels to Aquaman and The Expendables. He was examined again and more tumors were found.
“Everything turned out much worse than we thought. The doctor started talking about all these different tumors, for example, in the lungs, stomach, spine - outside of the kidneys. He said that I should probably take a break and start spending more time with my family. I asked him how much he thought I had left. He said two or three years, but it was clear from his voice that less”, – says the star of “Rocky IV”.
Lundgren made the right decision to see another oncologist. The new doctor came to the conclusion that the previous treatment was prescribed taking into account the fact that the kidneys were affected. However, the cancer mutated, which was not taken into account. He made adjustments. They began to treat lung cancer.
“In 2022, we have essentially watched a new drug do its thing. As a result, the tumors shrank by about 90%. I am currently in the process of removing the remaining scar tissue. Hopefully, when all the tumors are removed, there will be no cancer activity left. I will continue to take medication that will suppress everything else. Here’s a prediction.”added Dolph Lundgren.
