On the morning of April 4, there was a major train accident in the Netherlands. A double-decker passenger train crashed into a construction crane around 03:30 local time and derailed. A railroad worker has died. More than 30 people were injured.
The tragedy occurred 15 km from The Hague, near the village of Vorschoten in the province of South Holland. There were at least 50 passengers on the train.
Local authorities report that 19 people had to be hospitalized with severe injuries. The train driver was taken to the hospital with multiple fractures.
The cause of the crash is being investigated. As a result of the collision, the first car of the train derailed and crashed into the ground, the second fell on its side, and a fire started in the third car.

On the site where the train crashed into a crane at high speed, planned repairs were underway. Because of them, two of the four tracks were closed to traffic. Investigators must find out how the construction crane ended up on the path open to traffic.
