Orvillecreated by Seth MacFarlane, is more than just a tribute to Star Trek.. It takes its place in the science fiction genre thanks to its fantastic cast of characters. Like in Enterprise Star TrekThe Orville is run by a crew, from warrant officers to captains. Even ships that are not part of the Planetary Union follow some sort of ranking system for their crews.

Captains like Ed Mercer are responsible for the entire team, and always have a loyal first mate by their side. Next in command are lieutenant commanders, such as Dr. Claire Finn, who often control important areas of the ship. IN Orville Universe, there are many captains and commanders, but there are those who stand out for the way they handle difficult situations and encounters in space.

The action takes place 400 years in the future. The crew of the USS Orville continues their mission of exploration, unraveling the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their interpersonal relationships.

9 Captain Vorak

Vorak (Deobia Oparei) is the captain of the Moklan fleet. He intercepts the Orville and attempts to take Bortus and Klyden’s child, Topa, back to Moclus. He has a heated discussion with Captain Mercer and Lt. Cmdr. Kelly Grayson on Top. However, his efforts are stopped by Bortus, who calls for a trial of Moclaus.

Orville fans only meet Vorak briefly in the episode “About a Girl.” Although Captain Vorak may treat his crew well, he does not waste time thinking about how his actions will be perceived by others. A good captain should not allow his own beliefs to cloud his judgment. Vorak’s decision to intercept the Orville and aggressive desire to separate Topa from Bortus and Klyden show that Vorak truly is the “bully” as Ed calls him.

Before Talla took charge of security, Alara was the head of security on the Orville. She is from Xelaya and is extremely strong due to the planet’s high gravity. Talla is a close friend of Kelly Grayson.

Alara’s past drives her to protect others from harm. Others may consider her too young to be a commander, but she doesn’t let that stop her from being the best security officer she can be. Alara resumes her role as acting captain during the incident that left Kelly and Ed in danger on Kalyvon, and is hesitant to take action against Union rules until she receives support from her fellow officers. Although Alara made the right decision, she has to deal with the consequences even though she saved her friends and received her reward.

7 Lieutenant Commander Talla Keyali

Talla (Jessica Szohr) takes on the role of Alara’s head of security. She is a Xelayan, and also has incredible strength. She is close to John and is friends with Kelly and Ed.

Talla is very protective of Orville’s team. She will do everything to make sure that they are not in danger. She is bold and not afraid to speak her mind, especially when it comes to pressing safety issues. Her desire to protect is so strong that sometimes she seems too aggressive. this attitude earned her a reputation among the Union fleet.

6 Lieutenant Commander John LaMarr

Orville - Crazy Hidaltry

John (J. Lee) climbed the career ladder and went from navigator to head of the Orville technical department. He is Gordon’s best friend and has a close relationship with Talla.

LaMarr is smart and has a sense of humor that makes him an excellent mentor for any warrant officer aboard the Orville.. John is loyal to Orville’s team and uses his knowledge to help them get out of difficult situations. He helped the Orville escape the clutches of the Krill, served as acting captain during the Orville’s encounter with Narran 1, and provided vital information against the Kalons.

5 Captain Dalak

Krill does not have a very good reputation in the Union. Captain Dalak did not make the first impression on Orville’s crew. Fans of The Orville don’t know Dalak very well, as he only appears in two episodes: “Identity: Part II” and “Domino.” Captain Dalak (Nick Chinlund) helps Orville fight the Kalons not once, but twice.

Dalak is extremely loyal to his team and believes in Avis. His loyalty makes him a good captain., but this is ultimately one of its shortcomings. This prevents him from fully trusting the Union. Dalak helps the Union, but only because the Kaylons threaten all organic life, including krill and their way of life.

4 Lieutenant Commander Bortus

Ed Mercer (McFarlane) is the captain of the Orville. He and Kelly Grayson, Orville’s first mate, are divorced. Ed is Gordon’s close friend and the two served each other early in their careers.

Captain Mercer is not afraid to break Union rules for the sake of himself and his crew. He does not trust others until they prove themselves worthy of trust. At times Ed feels insecure and is afraid to ask him when he needs it. Despite these shortcomings, he does an excellent job of leading the Orville crew.

Dr. Claire Finn (Penny Johnson Gerald) is Orville’s chief physician. She is committed to keeping the Orville crew healthy. She is also the mother of her two sons, Ty and Marcus. Claire is in a relationship with Issac, a Kaylon.

Dr. Finn gives excellent advice and is often Kelly’s confidante as well as Ed’s. She responds quickly to incidents and provides assistance to her fellow officers. Her quick thinking allowed her to save lives and come up with solutions to any medical problem she encounters.

Kelly Grayson asked to serve on the Orville as Captain Mercer’s first mate. She and Ed Mercer were married for a short time, but she had an affair with Darulio, which ruined their relationship. Struggling with the guilt of his betrayal, Grayson secretly convinced the admirals to promote Mercer to captain and her to first officer.

Kelly is a brave first officer. She doesn’t let her past with Ed stop her from doing her job. She is a tough commander and is unlikely to break the rules. She is sitting confidently as the best character on Orville.
