They did not repent: the court sentenced the parents who killed and burned the 5-year-old daughter they took away from the foster family

The investigation found that the parents killed little Dasha in August 2018. As the girl’s mother later said, during another family quarrel, her roommate pushed Dasha. The girl fell, hit her head and lost consciousness. “After unsuccessful attempts to give her artificial respiration, the woman’s partner lit a fire in the stove and burned the girl’s body, and took the bones out into the street,” reported in the regional police department of the Zhytomyr region.

The girl’s disappearance went unnoticed for a long time. Information that Dasha may have been killed only came to the police in May 2019. When law enforcement officers came to her parents, the mother said that everything was fine with her daughter, and showed the child dressed in girlish clothes. But it turned out that this was her son, whom she tried to pass off as her missing daughter.

The death of little Dasha was a personal tragedy for Natalya Kobernik, the foster mother, in whose family the girl lived for three years. Telling about Dasha, Natalya called her daughter. And she spoke about her long and useless struggle with social services, whose representatives for some reason decided that the girl would be better off with alcoholic parents.

Dasha got into the family of Natalia when she was only one and a half years old. The girl then ended up in the hospital with terrible beatings.

- There was no living place on it, - told Natalia Kobernik. - Her parents beat her. I got to know Dasha from the head of the Children’s Service in Zhytomyr. The official told me that there is a girl who is now looking for a foster family. This was in May 2015. It turned out that back in October 2014, Dasha was taken away from her parents. Those were drunk. And the girl was so beaten that she couldn’t even sit.

Dasha lived in the hospital for seven months. Nobody was interested in her fate, and her parents continued to lead their usual way of life. As a result, Dasha was given the status of a child deprived of parental care. But her mother was not deprived of parental rights, this should be the next stage..

As soon as I saw Dasha, I immediately realized that we would remove her. The diagnoses did not frighten me, although before her we had no children with similar health problems. The nurse said that Dasha does not go into the hands of anyone. And before me, she held out her hands and said: “Mom.”

At a year and a half, she weighed only seven kilograms. It was a malnourished sick child. We immediately started working with her. They began to take her to specialists, underwent 12 rehabilitation courses. And we got good results. We developed a pen for Dasha, she could already take objects with this hand. In our family, Dasha grew up in love and care.

Why was the girl returned to her biological parents? According to Natalia, it all started with the fact that her own grandmother suddenly appeared. She said that she wanted to see her grandson why Natalya and her husband did not interfere.

It immediately became clear who they were and what they were. Dashenka was afraid of them. I understood that these meetings only traumatize the child. But as soon as I tried to say something about it, strangers who called themselves activists intervened in the situation.

These people began to shout that I was a bad foster mother if I did not let Dasha see her biological mother. Then it was these activists who helped Dasha’s mother sue and return the child. When it became clear that the biological parents wanted to take Dasha away, social services finally filed a lawsuit to deprive this woman of parental rights. I don’t understand why they didn’t do it before. And then it turned out that Dasha’s mother herself filed a lawsuit to return the child. And the Zhytomyr Regional Court of Appeal for some reason sided with her.

And although Natalya and her husband continued to sue Dasha, the girl was returned to her biological parents.

- Dasha was taken away on April 12, 2018. And already in August, these monsters, it turns out, killed her, – said Natalia. - For the last nine months no one knew where Dasha was or what was happening to her. Although social services should control it. They must regularly visit a dysfunctional family and check whether everything is in order with the child. When I called them, social workers said: “Don’t worry, we check everything, keep it under control. Parents do not drink, the child develops. And in January 2019, it suddenly turned out that not a single social worker had seen Dasha for several months. Representatives of the social services from the Ovruch district came to this family three times and never saw the child. How come? I asked. What if they killed her? “Natalya Anatolyevna, what are you talking about?! social workers told me. “Who could have killed her?” But it turned out that our Dasha at that time was really no longer alive …

Speaking about the “activists”, with the help of whom Dasha ended up in the hands of monsters, Natalya assumed that in fact these people were not interested in the child at all, but in the land where the family-type house was located: “The land here is good and expensive. My husband and I were hinted more than once that we should move out of here. And when the activists came to take the child from us after the court decision, they broke down the doors and windows in our house and shouted for us to get out of here.”

The fact that this terrible situation became possible due to the intervention in the fate of the deceased girl by the so-called activists who accompanied the trials and in every way influenced the fact that the child was taken away from the foster family was also noted in 2019 by the police. However, no one has ever brought any official charges against these people.

Reporting the verdict to the girl’s biological parents, the prosecutor’s office of the Zhytomyr region noted that the killers did not admit their guilt:

“The investigation was carried out painstaking work. In order to search for traces of the crime, the riverbed was blocked, where human remains with traces of thermal burning were found. Forensic examinations determined that they belonged to a child. In court, the defendants did not admit their guilt, shifting responsibility on each other. Completely unrepentant”.

- I am very sorry that the people, at the suggestion of which Dasha ended up in a family of murderers, were never punished, - said Natalia. - No criminal proceedings were even opened against these “activists”. Therefore, not all the perpetrators in this story are punished. We fought for our Dashenka for a long time, we sued. And after her death, the Supreme Court overturned the decision of the Zhytomyr Court of Appeal to return Dasha to her biological parents. But it was already too late… This is a pain that will be with me all my life. You may not believe it, but I feel that Dasha is nearby. On March 8, a boy from another family came up to me and said: “Aunt Natasha, I had a dream about Dasha today. She was sitting here in your chair.” He said that Dasha has noticeably matured and looks the same age as our adopted son Miron, with whom they were the same age. On the same day, we learned that the killers received a sentence …

We did not go to the courts - the last year because of the war we have been forced to stay abroad. When they started bombing Ukraine, representatives of the social services first took us to a shelter - to the basement. My nine children and I stayed there for three days, after which I went by bus with them abroad. The husband stayed, went to the terrorist defense. But when they found out that there were nine children, they refused to take him. In the summer he came to us … I think we would not go to the courts, even if we were in Ukraine. Come to see the killers of our Dasha? I don’t want to see them. While Dashenka was alive, we sued for her and were ready to return the mountains to take her away. But after her death, all this lost its meaning …
