After the end of the heating season, Ukrainians are waiting for an increase in tariffs for housing and communal services.

The fact that tariffs will rise has been discussed for a long time. From April 1, the cost of cold water for the population will be increased. The issue of an increase in the cost of electricity is also being considered, writes RBC-Ukraine, which received an official response from NEURC.

The issue of raising tariffs for centralized water supply and centralized drainage will be considered in March.

In the commission’s response, it was noted that the need to increase tariffs for centralized water supply and centralized sewerage was due to a change in the volume of sales of these services and an increase in the cost of individual components of the tariff structure.

The increase is planned to be carried out in two stages: from March 1 and from July 1, 2023, the NEURC noted.

With regard to electricity tariffs for the population, the working groups are considering different options.

One of the options involves modifying the current system of subsidies, the other - different tariffs depending on consumption volumes. The final decision will be taken by the government at the end of this heating season.

The commission reported that the reason for revising the electricity tariff is the current situation in the energy system of the country, which suffered huge destruction as a result of the war, and the crisis in the energy sector.

The NEURC noted that when planning the restoration of energy, it is necessary to look for funds for this in war conditions. In addition to international assistance, the main source of funds should be the funds included in the electricity tariff for the population, which has not been reviewed since 2017.

“It is important to note that in any decisions that will relate to the adjustment of the electricity tariff for residential consumers, the interests of vulnerable segments of the population will be taken into account first of all, so that they will be affected the least. The main thing is to make the price of electricity fair, to ensure the openness and transparency of the tariff revision process.”the letter says.

Recall that the government receives proposals to bring the cost of electricity closer to European standards.
