Despite the fact that the National Commission for State Regulation in the Fields of Energy and Utilities (NCREK) canceled the decision to increase water supply tariffs at the end of 2022, water tariffs have already increased in some localities.
According to OBOZREVATEL, most city councils have already increased water tariffs or are planning to do so in the near future.
NEURC sets tariffs only for large water utilities. In most settlements, local councils set tariffs.
If the city council refuses to raise tariffs, by law, it must find money in its budget to compensate for the difference between current and market prices. There is no money for this in the cities.
The reasons for the increase in prices are explained by the rise in prices for energy carriers, spare parts, reagents, and the need to raise the wages of workers.
For several years, the cost of electricity for water utilities has increased by 49%.
The rise in price of water is about 20%, depending on the water utility. The difference in water tariffs can be hundreds of percent.
“For example, in the Dnieper, a cubic meter of cold water with a drainage system costs UAH 31.36. And in Zhovti Vody, Dnepropetrovsk region, they propose to increase the water tariff to UAH 90.6 per cubic meter”- writes a resource.
The tariff depends primarily on the number of consumers. The larger the settlement and the more subscribers use the services of a particular water utility, the lower the price can be. The volume of water consumption over the past year has decreased in most cities.
An expert in the field of housing and communal services, Oleg Popenko, said that it is expected as an option to increase tariffs for water supply, sewerage and electricity. The increase is possible for business and residential consumer.
wrote that the cost of electricity in Ukraine is planned to be brought closer to European standards.
