mBank announced major changes in the mobile application. Starting September 20, users of older Android phones will lose access to the app. What is it about?

The mBank app requires a newer version of Android

According to the bank’s official inflation press, as of September 20, people with smartphones older than Android 7.0 will not be able to connect their phone to the mobile banking app. We are talking about version 3.38 of the application. Already connected devices will continue to work, but without further software updates and … not for very long.

mBank reports that from January 2023, owners of Android version 6 and earlier will also lose the ability to log into their accounts from a smartphone.

Why is mBank shutting down the mobile app?

It is difficult to be especially angry with the bank for this reason, because the restriction is dictated by the safety of clients’ money. Google is no longer supporting older Android systems, which is what’s known as security fixes and fixes various ways hackers can use your system.

The Bank offers customers to update their phone system to version 7.0 and higher. Unfortunately, if our smartphone uses, for example, Android 6, then it is so old that in practice such an update will be impossible in most cases. Then we only need to replace the phone with a newer model.

Android 6, also called Marshmallow, debuted in 2015. So this is an old version of the mobile system, given that Android 13 debuted in 2022.
