Andre Onana made a fatal mistake in Bayern Munich’s match against Manchester United, and that’s where it all started. The German team showed no mercy towards the guests from England, although as many as seven goals were scored throughout the match.
Bayern Munich and Manchester United put on a great show in the first round of the Champions League group stage. After the final whistle, only one team was satisfied - the German one.
Strange mistake by Andre Onana
Christian Eriksen could have given his team the lead after just a few minutes of play. Alphonso Davies managed to intervene after passing to a running team-mate, but when the Dane finished off the ball, there was no one to do it. Despite this, the midfielder was unable to beat the goalkeeper - largely also because he shot from a tight angle. However, it seems that the biggest mistake in this whole situation was made by the referee, because the Bayern player fouled the opponent.
Paradoxically, the owners had to work hard trying to take revenge on the guests. This was mainly due to lack of accuracy in simple games. Even when it looked like Musiala would move into scoring position after a cross pass, the Manchester United defender eventually beat him to the punch.
Manchester United tried to pursue Bayern Munich
However, in the end, Bayern Munich took the lead, and the main role in the whole situation was played by… Andre Onana. Despite the fact that Leroy Sane almost directly hit the goalkeeper and he reached the ball, he still let it into the goal. A few minutes later the score became 2-0 when Jamal Musiala crashed into the Red Devils penalty area from the left flank. Despite the defender’s assist, he still managed to pass to the unattended Serge Gnarby, who scored the goal. Just before the break, Sane almost made it 3-0, but made a minimal error.
Erik ten Hag’s team responded a few moments after the game resumed: Rasmus Hoylund scored a contact goal. It all started with a high pass, after which the ball went left to Marcus Rashford. He played it carefully to his friend, who was in a better position, and he hit with almost half a turn. Along the way there was another rebound, and the score became 2:1.
Casemiro determined the outcome of the match between Bayern and Manchester United
However, 120 seconds passed from the moment of the goal, and the Munich team received a penalty. There was nothing to discuss - Christian Eriksen played the ball with his hand, and the referee dictated “eleven”. Harry Kane stepped up to the ball and easily sent the ball into the net. Moments later, Leroy Sane hit the post.
Bayern’s two-goal advantage seemed insufficient, so the hosts continued to attack vigorously. Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane had chances but were stopped on both occasions. Paradoxically, the next goal was scored by the guests. In the 87th minute, Manchester United made their first dangerous move in a long time. Combination play led to Casemiro finally getting the ball. The Brazilian fell first, but still defeated Sven Ulreich. Mathis Tell scored in stoppage time to make it 4-2, and moments later Casemiro made it 4-3 from Bruno Fernandes. However, the English team did not have enough time for a draw.
