The presence of Iga Swiatek at the WTA tournament in Warsaw aroused great interest. In the stands one could meet, for example, Projekt Warszawa player Artur Salpuk. In addition to talking about the match, the volleyball player talked to Wprost about the League of Nations and the Polish team.
Iga Swiatek’s match at the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open gathered the Legia Tenis & Golf venues at ul. Myśliwiecka 4A in Warsaw, many tennis fans from the capital and beyond. To follow the actions of the first racket of the world in the match against Nigina Abduraimova from Uzbekistan went, including Rafal Trzaskowski, the mayor of the capital of Warsaw, and Artur Szalpuk, a member of Projekt Warszawa. We managed to exchange a few words with the latter.
Norbert Amlicki, “Wprost”: How do you like Igi Swiatek’s match?
Artur Szalpuk, Project Warsaw: Very! It was my first time in women’s tennis. Besides, here in Warsaw, so I’m glad I came.
Then where were you before?
It happened to me at a tournament in Sopot when I was 14 years old. I don’t even remember what players were playing then. At that time, I became interested in tennis, because I also played it for three years.
How are you doing?
Very good!
Then why did you become a volleyball player?
At the age of 12, I had to decide what to choose, and at such a young age I bet on volleyball.
Changing the subject, what do you think of the last one? exploits of Polish volleyball players in the League of Nations?
I don’t think it could be better (laughs). I am very proud of the guys, huge congratulations to them, because they showed excellent volleyball at this important tournament. We can only rejoice that from each tournament we return with medals, and even more so that we win them.
And you do not regret that you were absent at the decisive moment? Went to two tournaments.
Of course I regret it. I would like to be at fourteen and be able to be with the team. Unfortunately, while I was not there, I do my job and try. I do not want to say that I was accompanied by a feeling of envy, but there is some regret in me that I did not participate in this. But I support the guys and keep my fists for them.
However, in these two tournaments, especially in the first one, you were an outstanding figure and contributed to our high place.
I’m very glad to hear this, but the most important work has already been done by other players.
Last question: are you going to fight for the European Championship and Olympic qualification?
I think it’s not up to me, and judging by what I think, I won’t fight anymore. Getting ready for club season.
