The match between Poland and Germany in the quarter-finals of the League of Nations brought a lot of emotions to the fans. Byalo-Chervone started this rivalry brilliantly, but throughout the match there was no shortage of emotions. Fortunately, our volleyball players showed class and reached the semi-finals of the League of Nations.
In 2023, the women’s volleyball teams of Poland and Germany were able to get to know each other perfectly. Before the meeting, Vital Heinen even joked that he would not have to do a deep analysis of the white-reds, because he already knows so much about them. However, expectations from the players of Stefano Lavarini were high, which is not surprising, because they finished the intercontinental stage first, winning 10 out of 12 matches. In the quarterfinals, this reserve was to be supplemented by another triumph.
Dominance in the first set of the match between Poland and Germany
The beginning of the meeting was very favorable for our volleyball players, who immediately took the lead, and after more than a dozen actions, they achieved an advantage of three points. However, this is thanks to the Germans themselves, who made simple mistakes, for example, they attacked the tape.
Byalo-Chervone with each subsequent action became more and more self-confident, and Ruzhansky felt comfortable in attack. Effective at the net, with the support of Stisiak and Lukasik, she led the team to victory in the first set. The Poles were impressive in it, because they won 25:12 and closed this part of the competition in about a quarter of an hour.
German volleyball players responded with impressive style
However, as is often the case in women’s volleyball, we did not see a continuation, but we saw twists, because in the second set the Germans started better, especially Ortmann, who scored the most points for her team. After some time, our western neighbors became 10:5.
Relaxation in the ranks of the Poles was obvious, because the defense suddenly stopped working, and the game became sloppy. At some point, coach Heinen’s loss to volleyball players was as much as seven points. The pursuit of rivals was impressive (Lukasik especially shone), as after more than a dozen actions, the advantage of our rivals was reduced from seven points to one. Unfortunately, the ace on Veske’s serve dispelled the hopes of the white-reds. They lost the second set to 21 and the match ended in a draw.
Byalo-Chervone took the lead in the quarter-finals of the League of Nations
There were also problems with Lavarini’s players at the beginning of the third set. All because of two aspects: poor reception and more frequent effective counterattacks. Fortunately, our players quickly added, and then the double rebounding error slipped away by three “eyes”.
Commentators emphasized that today there is a lack of quality, average, i.e. Kornelyuk, and she really did little. She lacked activity in the block and efficiency in the service. Thanks to her, the Polish volleyball players gave their rivals a lot of points. To some extent, this was compensated by Stysiak, who, despite being a striker, also worked a lot in defense. As a result, the 3rd set was won to 21.
The result of the match Poland - Germany. The historical success of our volleyball players
The fourth set began similarly to the previous one - it was necessary to chase the result with a minimal advantage for the Germans. Our compatriots, however, remained concentrated, especially Stysiak and Ruzhansky. The first sent an ace on the pitch, and the second racket from the middle.
Vital Heinen’s wards were very vigilant and did not allow Byalo-Chervon to break away by a few points, so it was impossible to predict who would win until the very end of the set. The Germans defended heroically and scored more “eyes” even after pushed balls, and defended well.
Emotions reached a climax, and they were shared by the players, such as Alsmeyer, who missed the pitch at a delicate moment. After some time, Ortmann fired at the car, and for the Poles it became 23:20, but they missed the advantage. However, in the crazy ending, Schelzel crashed far into the car, the task did not change anything. Our volleyball players lost the ball in the first match, but scored in the block in the second, won up to 24, the whole match with a score of 3:1 and reached the semi-finals of the League of Nations for the first time in history.
