ZAKSA is in an increasingly difficult position. Warta Zawiercie was too strong

Must read

The next stage of the Plus League is slowly coming to an end. Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle is still not confident of reaching the playoffs. In the penultimate round, Kedzierzyn’s team met Warta Zawiercie.

After 28 rounds, the second-placed Poles are in 10th place with 39 points. The aforementioned ZAKSA (tenth place in the table), PSG Stal Nysa (seventh), Indykpol AZS Olsztyn (eighth), Skra Belchatow (ninth) and Barkom Kazany Lviv (eleventh) are competing for 7-8 places.

ZAKSA in a difficult situation before the end of the regular stage

To think about reaching the top eight, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle must win the last two matches. This will not be easy, given the match with Slepsko Malow Suwalki. In addition, the Polish vice-champions will play their first match against Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, fighting for first place in the table, and Jastrzębski Wengiel, the leader of the PlusLiga. Before this match, the captain of Kędzierzyn, Alexander Slivka, emphasized that his team was holding a knife to its throat. “The only thing we can do is control our game and fight until the end,” he said.

The match began with a minute of silence in memory of Wladyslaw Palaszewski, a legend of Wroclaw volleyball. A moment after this short ceremony, volleyball players from both teams entered the court and started a fight. This season ZAKSA once again approached this match weakened. Eric Shoji and Daniel Chichigoi fell ill before the match and were unable to help their teammates on the field. Miguel Tavares, who had to leave the team for a while due to injury, returned to Varta.

ZAKS had little chance against Warta Zawiercie

This match was very even from the start. The team from Kędzierzyn had a minimal advantage (2:4), making excellent use of Alexander Slivka and Bartosz Bednorc with the pipe. However, each time the finishers managed to make up for the losses and even take the lead (5:4). Karol Butrin was merciless to his opponents, and largely thanks to him, Varta led 16:14. As a result, the first set ended with a score of 25:19.

In the second set, the Kedzierzyn team had absolutely nothing to say. From the first goal the hosts built a two-point lead, which they gradually increased. The outcome was completely controlled by Michal Winiarski’s team, who won six out of eight events and scored seven points – 22:15. This game ended with a score of 25:17.

The third set was the most equal of all. Only at the end Alexander Slivka missed an important goal with a score of 22:22. One action later, Laba made a great attack. Thanks to this, Zawierc’s team had a match point. Mateusz Benek lost the first ball. Bartosz Kwolek scored the twenty-fifth point and finished the match with a score of 25:23. ZAXA is in a very difficult situation right now if it hopes to make the playoffs.
